I'd kind of like to have an ongoing thread where I (or others) post things they find interesting while diving into YJ. There are often some crazy items - horological lantern fish - which I think other people might find interesting as well. Maybe posting the item will reduce my compulsion to buy it, dissociating the reward of posting from the reward of owning. Also, maybe the posted item might be a Feiko to be avoided, and people could say so, helping out their fellow WSer. Some examples are this 1971 quartz pocketwatch for the 70th anniversary of Dentsu, the advertising juggernaut (170 billion in revenue in 2010). ... or this 6139-8050 I've never seen the like of (and maybe for good reason): .. but I was able to find this dial: (and there are a few more I'm keeping under wraps until auction close ) - I can see some possible objections: Maybe this would just be a thread of just me talking to myself, and that would annoy people. Maybe this would introduce some unwanted competition for some less-noticed item. Maybe more seasoned Seiko collectors will think my finds boring. Whatever any case, if nobody objects, or if the idea is broadly positive, then I'll go ahead with the idea. Feedback welcome - it's just an idea.

I for one would love to heard about what's out there, after the auction has closed.

I believe that both of those gold dials are AM but I could be wrong!

Fished this out this AM, a NOS 1969 3102-7000: A lot of cool stuff up there. Happy to shut up about it, or share it before or after auction close.

After auction close, is probably the way to go. I don't mind an occasional, live auction reference. Just not sure we need a thread full of them though. But if there are no objections from other members, I guess I'm okay with it.

Nice find - I'll use an especially skeptical eye before forwarding. Although an ongoing feiko thread would be cool.
In general it seems like we might be a little ongoing thread light (although the 'New Seikos' thread is one that should have legs), which spreads out the content and reduces initial value for first-time visitors.

I've never seen what the problem is with links to live auctions and as forums are all about sharing information I think it's a cracking idea.

As someone who's been tracking a mislabeled auction for a watch I've always wanted, seen a thread started on that very auction, and watched bids start to appear, I whole heartedly support waiting until the auctions are finished. What's the downside? You just have to wait a couple of days before you can talk about it?

The downside is you may pay more for the above example, but on the flip side you may be looking for a specific piece or part, can't find it and somebody post's a link to a mislabeled auction with the very thing you're looking for. You may have to pay more if other people are in the market for it but at least you have a chance to bid on it. Personally I think you'd be a bit soft in the head to post a link for an auction you want to win, so the waiting a couple of days to talk about it is a moot point really.

Right, and by doing so you've just screwed the other guy out there that's actually putting in the work digging around on the auction sites who also just needs that one piece. I guess I mind, because I feel that I do put in a lot of work looking for this stuff. I certainly don't mind you sharing information about auctions you discover, everyone here needs certain things and can't be vigilant all the time. It's great to help friends out. However, I don't think they should be posted for all to see. We are definitely all in competition with each other and it's not just us. It's everyone looking at the boards. On TOF there are 10 times as many guests browsing as members, here it looks like it's twice as many.

As much as people may not like it, you can't stop other people from discovering an auction that you may interested in and bidding on it. The "work" that you mention is finding misdescribed auctions of items you'd like, posted by people who have little idea of what they're selling, and winning them as cheaply as you can. The seller is then getting screwed every bit as much as the guy can't who win the auction he wants as cheaply as he'd like. I have no objection to either scenario, informing others of interesting auctions or winning auctions cheaply.

I was planning on just posting pictures and some cool bits about it (or just wth is this?), not live links.
A huge number of items are poorly labeled by western standards, but finding an item referenced might take some looking.
The NOS 3102-7000 above was listed as 'セイコー エレクトロニック 極美品デッド', which Google translates to 'Seiko electronic ultimate beautiful goods dead'.
But if you searched for 'Seiko electronic ultimate beautiful goods dead' you wouldn't find it, as there are a number of translations from the English words to/from Japanese.

Ok, perhaps "screwed" is a bit strong, but you can't deny that the readership of this website contains more people who love finding deals on online auctions than people who put up mislabeled auctions. While I can't stop people from discovering a gem of an auction that I've found, I also prefer it if the location of or even the existence of that auction were not being broadcast.
