I havent bought a watch for while but I am now going to perhaps buy one and have settled between these two..... Which one if either would you go for and why? The Seiko is new and the Citizen is used but has been recently serviced, all seals replaced and has been pressure tested. I know it's all a matter of personal taste and I should buy the one I like the most but it's a hard choice. Both watches are the same price. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance. The Citizen............. The Seiko............

I've had bad experiences with used Eco-Drives not holding a charge and one of them was from that era.

I can't help you on this one, both of those watches are too "busy" for me.

If the capacitor/storage battery was replaced when serviced, my clear choice would be the Eco-Drive.

Citizen for me it has the second "hour 24Hr" hand as a true GMT should have. Also, it has a better WR rating, a more attractive and less cluttered dial.

The Seiko seems to be a GMT poser. Not sure what the point is of all the city names around the bezel...why not just have the names of different breeds of cats instead? Or different spatula manufacturers?? I am sure it's function is spelled out in the manual, but the Citizen looks better anyway.

It's the Citizen for me. Cleaner more purposeful. The GMT hand the crown leaves the Seiko in the dust imho.

+1 for the Citizen - it looks a lot more like a purpose-built watch than that Seiko.

Well, I have both, so go for both of them!
Actually, the citizen is long out of production.... very solid, screw down crown, 24 hr hand... Smaller than the seiko. But if I had to choose I'd probably keep that one.
I just like the looks of the seiko. The supposed purpose of the rotating city bezel is to line it up on the 24 hr ring and determine the time in another city. Useless for me, I'm not much of a world traveler. Then, I don't dive but I have a gazillion dive watches...!

I'd go for the citizen. If the cell is dead send it into Citizen and tell them to fix for free never having to change a battery.
Citizen made a ton of those GMT styles. I like the designs of that era a lot.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix yourself or someone else on this forum. I do know you have to be careful finding the correct cell as the numbering is confusing. Can't remember the specifics though. batterybob is pretty good at finding the correct one if you just enter the caliber number.

One thing to consider is that the bracelet on the Citizen will also fit their NY-0040 series of dive watches. You know the ones with the left side crowns? Other than that, to each his own.

I havent purchased the Citizen yet so at this point in time I dont know for sure what if anything may or may not be wrong with it! Seller states it has been recently serviced as of 3 months ago including new seals etc! The point being is that its a "used" watch and anything can go wrong at any time! I prefer the Citizen over the Seiko but at least if I buy the Seiko I'm getting a brand new watch! Still debating!! I just know that Citizen doesnt do anything FREE unless it's still under Warranty!
