My 87 year old neighbour, wanted to gift his Omega to his grandson and asked my advice, now I know a thing or two about Seiko's, but Omega's nada zilch so i suggested that he send it to a local official Omega dealer first for a service and waterproof check etc before gifting the watch…..this was two years ago….
The outcome.
This is the damage that they did, they then said that they would not service the watch as they NOW couldn't guarantee the integrity of the watch
They have broken off ¼ of the thread from the case, cracked and bent the case and put two holes in the case back (which they filled) it looked like someone had tried to pry the case back off and slipped several times and gouged the case back, by levering the case back this dislodged the threaded section, you can see the resulting damage.
Well, he has been very determined to get this rectified, Omega Australia wiped their hands of the watch, stating that these old watches are prone to breakages. He was in Europe last June and visited the Omega office in Bern, Switzerland, now he is an electrical engineer and his wife a retired nurse, so they are both bright and intelligent people.
From the story they told me, they had a "heated" discussion in English/German and their native Italian (loved to have been there) for over an hour with an Omega service representative. The outcome was, that they would not leave until Omega looked into the issue and came up with a solution, the service representative finally agreed that Omega would take the watch and look into it!
Well today he received a written (letter) apology from Omega Australia and was told that the RESTORED watch would be back in Australia later this month and that Omega (local office) would have his watch for him to collect, the cost? $0.
I just can't wait to see the watch and i really do hope that it's as good as it once was.
More to come
