That was interesting....and it speaks volumes for Orient's movement design....simple....yet extremely effective.

The whole Orient movement is based on an older Seiko automatic movement; likely the 7009. This was back when Seiko only had a 31% interest in Orient.
The magic lever system is really Seiko's interpretation of the Pellaton winding system invented by IWC in the late 1940s.

As it turns out, the Japanese have copied nearly everything. The only thing they really do better than the Swiss is get the product to market first...Quartz watches, Spring Drive, Kinetic, Solar and maybe thermic(did the Swiss ever make a thermic watch?). Patents don't amount to diddly squat; the first product on the market or the moon is the one everybody remembers
