So I just bought a Super Oyster for a 6309 from our Canadian supplier and the end links don't quite fit in between the lugs. There was an emery board included so I starting filing away at the sides of the end links and now the board is clogged with metal and they still don't fit!
Before I order some more boards and keep filing away is there something else I should be doing?

A super fine file, would probably be better? I know some folks, just rub it across a piece of sandpaper on a flat surface, might be cheaper? Good luck, looking forward to seeing it complete!

Are the lugs on the 6309 case so inconsistent between cases that one would expect to have to custom fit?

But this particular seller sends along an emery board as if expecting the customer to have to modify the end links to fit. These after market bracelets are not cheap. Especially those with solid endlinks. I'd expect them to fit unless there's some inconsistencies in the old dog cases.

I think it's the custom solid end links that makes the bracelet expensive. The bracelet sans end links is probably mass produced in Hong Kong or mainland China. The custom end links are probably done on a much smaller scale. That said, I bet there's a healthy margin, seeing as some of these are $80 or more.

He sends the emery board along because of the inconsistency of the end links. Many other end links do not have this problem. It is highly probable that the production of these end links has been out of spec since day one and rather than gobble the loss, it's easier to send emery boards to the new 'custom'er I bought a $14 oyster with folded end links and those end links fit fine on the half dozen cases I have; 6309 and 7002. Even fit on the one 7s26-0020 case I have.

I was thinking about getting a president bracelet with SEL. I'm not keen on filing it myself. Any recommendations on where I should consider purchasing one?

It's well known that the SEL on bracelets designed for cases that never had a factory bracelet or if they did, never a SEL, may require filing to fit. I've been through it with product from Yobokies and Tungchoy/Stella/Strapcode. It's a pain ranging from minor to major (I've had efforts anywhere from a few minutes to an hour). But you have to use something made for filing metal - like an actual metal file! Shipping that bracelet with an Emery board is somewhere between a joke and an insult.

I was thinking exactly the same, Will's has been so good over the years I bought straps from him, it beggars belief this is the same bloke. I bought a super oyster from him for my 6309-7040 with the SEL's and it fitted perfectly after filing the lug surfaces where they had been distorted by the spring bars elongating the holes and pushing up the surrounding metal. Emery boards are great for touching up your finger nails, it would be more appropriate to include a cheapo metal file in the cost as they are peanuts to buy.

I like SEL, IMO they make the watch.
I had no problem with the StrapCode SEL on the super engineer, the fit is near perfect.
I would agree with Groundhog, a fine file will do the trick just make sure you have a way to secure the SEL so that you can run the file flat over the SEL ends, you can then finish with 400/600/1500/2000 wet dry (this may be over kill, but that's me)

Stainless is actually fairly hard stuff. A dremel or grinding wheel are really needed unless you want to take hours to make it fit and then one slip and scratches need sorting also.
I'm more than happy to make it fit if you want to send it over the water free of charge. Just cover postage. Personally I'd go hunt one of Duncans suggested links out by Swedefreak.
Good luck!
