So I recently picked up another Spork for, you guessed it, nearly a song. But the story of how I got it is fairly interesting, confusing, and for me, pleasing.
This seller from France had a Spork listed and I immediately sent the seller a message asking if he would consider putting a BIN on the watch (there had been no bids).
The seller replied (nearly word for word) "sure, give me a reasonable offer". I replied with an offer of $250. I know, not entirely reasonable within the confines of the WS world, but "out there" it may have some traction.
The seller replied that he had relisted the watch and gave me the item number. I went and looked and the seller had relisted it with a BIN for $177 with free shipping. He even sent me a message pointing out the dollar amount.
Needless to say, I snatched the sweet little baby up and it got delivered today - very fast delivery! Now how bizarre is THAT? I got my 2nd Spork for merely $10 more than I paid for my first Spork (just had to put that in there, fellas).
On with the pictures and the obligatory replies of "you lucky ____________".
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go out and buy some Lotto tickets...

Spencer, now you see why I argue (for lack of a better word) with you and Tim about the prices 6309-704x watches fetch - I am operating from an obviously distorted sense of reality!
There are a few small scratches on this Spork, I'm going to do a "Month on the Wrist" write-up at the end of July with my impressions.

Dan Tim and I have somewhat different ideas about the correct values for 6309 divers. What's your take on them?

I thought you two were pretty much on the same page about them (see this thread for my reasoning). But to answer your question, I think the -7040 diver is rarer and should cost more than the -7049 diver. It seems as if there are 3 or 4 -7049 divers for every -7040.
To purchase a "very good" condition -7040, I'd be willing to spend up to $250, shipping included. A -7049, if I wanted another, in the same condition will have a price ceiling (for me) of only $150. I know, for (essentially) the same darn watch!

Those are 2012 prices at best, if you ask me. And it seems that people don't really make any distinction between 7040s and 7049s. I actually prefer 7049s for some reason if I think about the difference at all. Any decent 6309, even a non-Suwa, is a bargain at $150. I sold a very very good non-Suwa for $450 last month. When hammered cases are bringing $100, when a rough caseback is $50, the days of the $150 all-original 6309 are past us. If you ask me, that is.

I think we're on the same page, any decent 6309 for under $200 is a nice deal IMO. I personally value a non Suwa, a bit lower...but that's only my personal preference.

And thus, we will disperse to our corners of the US of A and set out to one-up each other....

Trust me, I didn't pay that much for a majority of my 6309's, but I think the price is certainly acceptable.

I think the least I paid for any 6309 I considered worth keeping condition-wise was $125, and that was a crazy BIN at some weird hour. All the rest were above $175, with a few pegging in above $200. All needed full servicing, new seals, and a new crystal.

Funny thing is I am not really a 'Diver Guy' but I like the look of these Sporks a lot.
Congrats to the OP on a nice score and what's wrong with the French fellow to turn $250 into $177?

Oh, nothing too much wrong - if I knew what I did to make it happen I'd be doing all the time, that's all.
<-- And I'd be using this silly guy more often!
