Perhaps a coating on the inside of the crystal. I'd want something external, and non-permanent / non-staining. Making UV-proof crystals would be ideal but talk about crazy impossible expense. I think this is external, non-permanent, non-staining - spray on/ wipe off. Would it work? Add a spray of it twice a year maybe? www.goldeagle.com/product/303-aerospace-protectant

Got this on eBay after a negotiated best offer price, and it just showed up. Wow. I mean, I have never seen one in this condition. They're always so beaten up and hacked up, especially the insert. This one is amazing! My pictures here don't do it justice at all. I didn't do anything to this at all, I just took it out of the box. Holy crap. Nice score. I have never owned this model, but you are correct. Most of the ones I have seen for sale are pretty well hammered. Yup, I'm with you. These are pretty nice when new. The inserts just get destroyed. They're not the greatest movement, and not a patch on a main-line diver for quality, but they're attractive in this condition. Size-wise they're good, 43mm on the case IIRC. It's the small rotating ring that makes them wear smaller.

I guess I have always been a little put off by the tinkertoy 7N and 5H movements they put in these. Always thought of those as something that belongs in a low-end dress watch, not a serious diver. Plus, I am not a huge fan of the convex bezel insert, which as you point out seems quite narrow for the case size. It always struck me as being a "scratch magnet", and given the condition these are usually found in apparently they ARE. But they sure can be pretty before they get used too much!

I'm not sure why Seiko used these little plasticky movements in a "dive" watch, but they cut some other corners as well. The crown seal setup isn't awesome, caseback seal is a flat type. It's more of a "diver" than it is an actual diver. But the dials are great, and overall in this condition it's attractive.

Sawtooth has the same or similar movement. Does that also have similar corners cut?

I really need a black bezel version of that one.
I miss my Pepsi.
I rarely sell watches but the ones I do sell are usually the ones that get worn too much and hog up the wrist time so they have to go.

You are literally the only person I've ever heard say anything like that. People sell watches all the time, but mostly because they don't get wrist time for whatever reason. Selling watches because you like them too much? Seriously, that's unusual.
