Using the time-honored techniques honed by other scammers before him, a new seller, ubllc8889, has arisen. - Start with a beaten watch, preferably from the Philippines
- "Service" it
- Polish the ever-loving hell out of the case
- Put in a new crystal
- Take magazine / advertising grade photographs of said polished turd
- Have cloudy / obfuscating non-descriptive "description"
- Ask a lot of money
- Use shill bidding to jack the price

Thanks for the heads up Spencer.
You forgot one:
Don't show a movement shot.

The crystal looks more like it too has been polished all to heck; there are a couple of chips around the edge, biggest one around 11 o'clock.
Isn't that dial from a more modern watch?

Thanks for the heads up Spencer. You forgot one: Don't show a movement shot. You are correct, I did. And I'd bet it's breath-taking.

Sure looks perdy, to the untrained eye.

Sure looks perdy, to the untrained eye. I'm absolutely sure that untrained eyes are the buyers this seller is shooting for. You get people to self-select for the ones who'd be more likely to buy, to pay more, and to be less willing to complain. It's a formula that has served other scammers like Time_Classics / Timely_Classics / Firefly very well. It's a tried-and-true method in online and email scams too. Use techniques to get your marks to weed themselves out, so the aware ones who can see through you avoid the scam.

Definitely has an over polished case and listing it without the model number, 7015- 70XX, isn't going to help with the bidding.
Actually it has a pretty decent dial and the original bracelet which are the hardest parts to find in you're in need. The lume on the hands leaves a little to be desired and the chrono hand either has grunge on it or marks from a little too much pressure re-installing it.
I'll be interested to see what it goes for because I have one in much nicer condition on it's original bracelet I'm considering parting with to fund another project.

Magpie syndrome strikes again! Just like beejooped here in the UK. Takes wonderful photos and sells total crap for heaps of money. Same as clock game. I'd be worth a fortune if I cobbled old crap together and faked shyte but I don't so I'm skint most of the time! Damn my conscience!

My theory on that is the seller doesn't want educated & knowledgable buyers. They might cause problems. My theory is that he wants the ignorant and unwary to buy from him. They'll have less reason to complain when things aren't right. JMO.

They'll have less reason to complain when things aren't right. JMO. I'd say you are likely right. This is one reason I participated heavily in the Dr. Seiko Seikoholics efforts: 1. Japanese Watch Database: seikoholics.yuku.com/forums/69/Japanese-Watch-Info-Database/Japanese-Watch-Info-Database#.U-qfOaNpvNE2. Auction reviews @ seikoholics.yuku.com/forums/78/Seikoholics-Auction-WatchesIt was an attempt to educate collectors/buyers in the finer points of evaluating vintage Japanese watches. 'Seriously though, the auction "database" is intended to help people evaluate potential purchases (and sales too) by showing "comparable data" in the marketplace & help them set a reasonable limit price in bidding & reasonable "sell price" if they are a seller of a similar item to one shown there.' I also wrote various posts w/ buying "strategy" tips: Ex: seikoholics.yuku.com/topic/611/Seiko-Marvel-prices-nonsensical-latelyExcerpt: "OK, if you saw my recent auction post of a re-dialed Marvel (SS case, 17j): ... "you'll remember that I thought the price was way "out of line" for a re-dialed item like this. And, let me add now, that even if it were with a clean original dial I think the price is excessive! "Why do I say that?? Well, that's because I keep price histories of various items around & refer to them when I evaluate a watch for sale! "OK, so what do I have in the way of comparison??? ..." AND: seikoholics.yuku.com/reply/4602/AlpinistSports-200#reply-4602Where I say: "I evaluate the auctions, both the good and the bad points in each one, I try to show, by example, a good way to evaluate a watch, it's 'fair market value' and the attitude of 'if you can't get this one for a fair price, just wait ... another very much like it will come along later'. I think this approach does not create excess competition, rather it should create more educated bidders with more self-control... I hope"
