I just finished servicing and repairing this white dialed NY2300. The movement ran but the day and date mechanisms weren't operating. When I got inside I discovered that one of the parts had been put back in upside down by a previous baggage handler. A full service and it ran but the amplitude of the balance wheel was pretty sad. So I replaced it with another spare I had, Now it has a nice big swing to it As I was taking these photos(actually when I was setting the time) I noticed the hands moved way to easily and now they don't track at all. I'll have to go back in and replace or stake the canon pinion as it is slipping big time. I think this camera will do just fine. It even smooths out my shaking hands. Have to play with the macro now.

This is seemingly the best I can get with my macro....... I can only get so close to the object.............

The picture in the previous post is about as close as you will be able to get with that camera. It's not bad but macro photography is not the strong point of the S6500. You might try putting the camera on a tripod and having it several feet away from the subject. Then use the zoom in normal mode and see if you can get closer shot than with the macro mode.

I just tried that but it looks better the way I took it in the 1st. pic I posted! Something I'll have to live with I guess? I usually only use the macro mode when I need to take pics for E-bay. All the rest of my pics seem to turn out pretty good

All the rest of my pics seem to turn out pretty good Just work within the limits of your camera and most shots should be pretty good. When in doubt, shoot several shots of the same thing only at different distances. Do you use the prefocus feature; ie partially hold the shutter button down so the camera focuses on the subject? This can make a huge difference over just stabbing the shutter button and hoping the automatic exposure algorithms work.

Yep... I always use the pre-focus feature as that way I obviously know its in focus or not.

Just my two cents worth...Anytime you are using a camera in close up mode, it should be on a tripod and you should use the timer to make the exposure. JMHO This picture was taken in CU Mode on a Nikon E4600. The picture was underexposed by two "stops".

Even on a tripod it is still easy to shake the camera when punching the shutter button. The timer absolutely eliminates any of that

Sounds like it's time for a thread on watch photography advice from people who know what they're doing, so that folks like me can stop foisting crap upon everyone else!

I agree it's always better to use a tripod, and I also use manual focus when doing macros, with the camera set so I can adjust f-stop for depth of field which can sometimes be too shallow if left on auto.

Hey Guy's I have one to fool around with, one of those little ...... Coolpix L24 ....jobs. Can this raschal do anything to take close pictures ? I got it to run around and take pictures all over, but it gives me problems to use. Well I am not a camera guys at all, my granddaughter is ( 12 ), and she does all the pictures. I have a Nikon that cost about ...$1,200 a little back, but can do a thing with it. She takes Photography lessons and she is a wiz at it. I own the camera, she run's it.

The L24 is a nice little camera and quite capable of excellent pictures. For close up shots you can get the lens as close as 2" from the subject but any closer than that and it will not focus. If the macro capabilities are like other Nikon Coolpix camera you should be able to get very good sharp shots with this little machine 7dfe79adc2f0
