Just put half a dozen 7s26 watches on the Timegrapher. These two stood out as being somewhat less than crap... This is the NOS watch and I can guarantee it has never been opened... It was a gift from TheNeilo aka The Aqualand King. This is the first real tear down and repair I ever did. It involve replacing a lot of rusty parts and help from friends around the world but the results definitely say 'not crap'... BTW...the results on the timegrapher were obtained by trial and error, years before I got the Timegrapher. I am amazed at the beat error rate!

It's truly hard to beat a good-condition 7xxx series watch. The 7S's are no slouches at all. My 2nd 007 runs in the 270s easily, with almost no beat error and flat accuracy. My 7002-7039 is the same.

Its not like Seiko is new to this rodeo, folks. I'm sure they got things under the hood figured out real well. Any complaints about the caliber is probably just the product of watch forum ridiculousness.

Finally got around to putting this one on the TG... This little watch is from Oct 1997 and doesn't seem to have any service history; at least there is no indication scribed on the inside of the case back. I have not serviced nor adjusted it and this is what it is producing almost perfectly across all positions... These entry level movements never cease to amaze me!

I'm enjoying your findings Pete. Thanks guys. I really have to credit Spencer with spurring me on and getting the machine. It is providing me with a lot of movement knowledge that I didn't have before. Not the physical parts but rather operation and how different things can have different or even similar effects. Any watches I work on will definitely be the better for this new knowledge

Not specifically a 7S26, but I got in this lot today. A 7002 transitional. Some genius had taken it apart, probably due to the broken dial feet, and then hadn't put it back together. So, I got a loose movement etc. Sadly, the seller didn't follow my instructions for packaging, and the handset was destroyed. MOTHERF*kr. Anyway though, to ease my pain, I put the movement up to power, and popped it on the timegrapher. Unserviced, loose, no love, and it was putting out 245 amplitude. ZERO beat error. Gaining +20s/d dial down, steady and with basically no variation. Unserviced 22 year-old movement, and that's what it was doing. People who knock this movement family don't know what they're talking about.
