I've got this strange affection for the H239s despite the fact that up until yesterday, I've never owned or even touched one that worked. Water damaged, destroyed by battery acid, or just with a range of strange circuit issues. Every one, dead. I own more than $200 worth of non-functional H239s. At least, that was true until yesterday. Got one in. It was half-dead, of course. Analog side totally seized. I opened it up. Yup, battery leak. Acid crystals filled the gear train. Fan-tastic. But the LCD worked nicely. Having a bunch of dead ones made a fix pretty easy actually. I just swapped the main plate / frame that held the destroyed the train for one that was clean, but electronically destroyed. I didn't have any actual hope that this would result in a working watch, since this approach had never worked before, but what the hell. Bless me, I finally got in one that I could return to life. All functions functional. It fired right up. Amazing. So, I spent the rest of the post-work afternoon cleaning the case, and generally shining things up. It's now wearable. So, I'd like your honest unvarnished opinion of this strange ana-digi. Hot or not? One thing I can't figure out is what sort of person would have bought this. Who was it marketed towards? What outfit would one have worn it with? Dress? Sport? Is this a stylish watch or a dressy watch or a sporty watch? Who did this watch design speak to?

I think it's hot, definitely a cool piece. Looks kinda like a dressy, sport watch.

I like it. I would be to small for my wrist, but all in all it's a classy looking watch!

Totally badass IMO. But then again...cool digitals are one of my weaknesses.

One mildly interesting thing - when I was deep-cleaning the bracelet links, I pulled out a single arm hair of the previous owner. Gross. It was red.

Red worse than blonde or brunette? Cool watch in any case.

Red worse than blonde or brunette? Cool watch in any case. I think just the fact that it was an arm / wrist hair was gross enough. That it was red just made the whole experience that much more piquant. I've cleaned out as much gruk as the rest of you, but it's not usually identifiable as being from a human. This was.

Hair that is not attached to a human being totally grosses me out. Even if it's my wife's or one of my kids in the shower . . . I get totally skeeved out! It's an interesting watch. Definitely a historical snap shot. Probably Seiko trying to hedge their bets at the start of the digital watch age. You know . . . . targeted at the person who may not quite yet be ready for a full digi . . . always have the analog hands there for a backup.
