A German fellow was interested in this 1980s 6458 midsize quartz but he found the black dial version instead. These were made for only a few years then the 7C43 etc came out.... I used to collect and sell all the color versions a few years ago. They came in Black, orange, white and a teal blue color. Very accurate. 35mm bezel and 39mm to dial. Some have since passed on. When you finally reach the point in time to fully appreciate a certain watch you find it is long gone. That is why I try not to sell any so that they are still int eh box when the time comes but it is hard. The thrill is truly in the hunt and once you find it the thrill is gone.

Does anyone know if there is some sort if historical significance to the color? The oranges are all pretty close to each other and don't seem to deviate too dramatically from one another.

Doxa dive watch is supposed to have been the first to use orange. Seiko had a 2205 boys/ladies orange dial diver in 1977.. As a guess, watch companies began to use the orange color more and more, after seeing the Doxa dive watch. This question is like who used the first pepsi bezel?....Rolex did, I think, and ever since it was imitated. Here is an interesting read from a 2009 WUS post on color clarity in water: forums.watchuseek.com/f135/colors-depth-441391.html

It is the color that turns white as you get deeper. I haven't spent much time under 100 ft, but at those depths, it's bright yellow that seems the most visible, to me. - Thomas
