It looks like it had a weird re-lume to me, with those hard edged "cakes".
What do you folks think?

That is a sham and so blatant, why doesn't the seller list with a BIN only if he is so uptight about getting 'his' price for it?

Its all original except for the insert and not re-lumed so I'd say it finished at a fair price.... The bidding history is very suspect though.

I would have bet a fair sum that the dial was relumed. Can you explain (and I mean this sincerely) what makes you judge it to be original. I thought it a relume because the round indices look like hockey pucks (hey, that's the best I could come up with) whereas all the original Seikos that I've seen were more dome like (higher in the middle then sloping down to meet the flat surface of the dial). I am interested in learning and not trying to start any crap. |

Check out the textured finish to the lume, it looks like it was applied to a piece of cloth and then pressed onto the dial. That's the tell-tale sign that the lume (and also the dial) on this one is original. I've yet to see another dial, Seiko or otherwise, where the lume finish is the same although there are many genuine 6309 dials where the textured finish is less pronounced. ...all the original Seikos that I've seen were more dome like (higher in the middle then sloping down to meet the flat surface of the dial). In the case of the divers such as 6309's or SKX's the lume should be an even thickness from centre to edge. There are plenty of Seiko dials which have dome shaped lume plots but not on the diver models as far as I'm aware... |

On the contrary, I'd say that some folks are now getting clued up about these and that's been driving the prices up lately, certainly with the all original examples. I was hoping for £300 when I listed mine and I did think the buyer overpaid at £470, but when the other one fetched £480 a few weeks later.... Just an FYI / PSA, not all A/M crystals are created the same. Our A/M 6309 & 7548 crystals, 320W34GN00, are exact duplicates of the originals, down to the frosted side and bevel. Wonderful clarity as well.  |

It could well be that old Seiko's fetch more in the UK with it being a smaller market over here etc. Mine was offered worldwide but the buyer was from England... Or it could be that the classic vintage Seiko's such as 6309-7040's are now becoming more appreciated. I bought a H558 Arnie project watch last year thinking I could get it sorted for a total spend of £150ish and sell it for £200 or more. It took a fair bit more work and parts than I'd anticipated for and nine months later (Feb 14) I tried to sell it for the £280 that it owed me. It was gone within 24hrs and looking at the recent Arnie prices I should have asked for closer to £400. I guess my point is that I'm of the opinion that certain Seiko's are way undervalued right now and I think that certain models are due an adjustment in prices, with good 6309's being one of those models. |
