Here is something to ponder. How did this watch with an aftermarket bracelet, greyed-out lume, and what seems to be a repolished case bring over $700? Does the information below give us any guidance? Or am I just being paranoid. Winning bidder's bid activity with the seller: Runner-up bidder, two final very high bids, 75 feedback, dormant account (no recent feedback): Third bidder, dormant account, 4 feedbacks, nothing recent: Fourth bidder, appears to be genuine, the real deal, punched out after bid of GBP 320.00 Fifth bidder, zero-feedback new account:

You are not being paranoid, probably just dumbfounded by this madness. I can understand shill bidding to a point (do not approve) but why bid your own items out of the market? Crazy.
The gray lume being a USP amused me too:-)

I guess we'll see if it actually gets paid for...

I'm not sure there is anything dodgy going on with the bidding here. The bid history and percentages only cover the last 30 days so if a bidder hasn't purchased anything for a month and then places a bid he now has 100% activity with the seller, even though he may never have dealt with him before.
As for the price (assuming its legit), maybe it was driven by the grey lume? When I bought the one in my avatar I had a perfect creamy lumed 6309 but when I saw the grey one I had to have it and sold the normal one soon after. I know its not to everyone's tastes but maybe there are those who will pay a premium for it.

I'd say cream / tan lume is desirable because it so rarely happens. The '77s will often have buttery lume, but later watches, rarely. But grey lume on a Seiko is one of those things that happens. It can look really nice depending on how it comes out, but I don't know that it's sought out.
As for the bidding thing, if one account came out of dormancy to throw a bid, that's unremarkable. But three? And they all bid high and hard on one item from one seller? An item that sells for double / triple what it should have?

The lume on this one, doesn't even look grey, it just looks rough & dirty IMO.

This watch looks like it was relisted. Is this seller located in the UK? If so, then yes, it is relisted.
D.
Edit: Whoops. I guess not, but it looks darn similar in some of the photos! (Yes, it is the same seller).
