Another thread got me thinking about places I remember going as a child, and how the simple things seemed so special. We used to travel from Upper Michigan, down to Georgia every year, to visit my Grandparents. We typically made stops at the same places along the way, and being from a small town, some of these were pretty cool. Traveling through the mountains was always a treat, not something one sees very often. In the mountains of Kentucky or Tennessee, there was a place called "The Blanket Store". We would always stop there, it was something we looked forward to. I do remember one year, during our visit, there was a head-on crash right out front. Here is a pic of my brother and I during one of those stops, this is probably 1969? *I'm on the left* I also remember how strange it was, that everyone in the south called pop, soda. They had no idea what the hell pop was...lol. We would also get to go to Baskin Robbins, and I would get Bubble Gum ice cream. Not sure what the base flavor was, but it had fruity flavored Chicklets in it. There we were introduced to Krystal Hamburgers, god I loved those. Those are just a few of the things I remember, do you have anything that really sticks in your memory?

Thanks for sharing Tim and what a great pic!! My story: We always went camping in the only Duchy in the world: Luxembourg. A few hours drive from us, and after the first time I became addicted to Luxembourg (Lucilinburhuc is Luxembourg). My first kiss I got in Luxembourg laugh1.gif from a Belgian girl and after 24 years we met again (now 2years ago) and now we're together forever I also collect Luxembourg coins (medieval-2000). Hunting trips with my best friend who lives there since his 19th: Great nature! One of the many castles

Ah yes, vacation memories.....just wonderful. I had to laugh about the pop vs soda thing because that's what I always remembered about the south as well. Truth be told, I was born in Alabama when dad was stationed at Craig AFB (now closed). Trips to the states were always cool cause they had so much more "neat" stuff than what we had in Canada, or at least I thought so. The other memory of headin' south were the chain of Stuckey's restaurants and their pecan logs. That and all the billboards advertising certain attractions almost every mile along the way. Thanks for sharing and stirring up those memories and here's a shot of yous truly with mom in Hollywood Beach, FLA
