Or Tsunami MKII... either way this is a completion of a project started several years ago.
I did this some months ago but never posted it here. I actually thought it would be good only because there are obviously several fans of the Seiko 6309.
I got the first inspiration of this project several years ago, when I was perusing the watch forums, I believe the WRUW threads and came upon a Seiko 6309 that had some military ladder hands installed on it. I liked the overall look and thought that I should have one at some point.
A few months later I saw the same hands in the MKII site and I also saw a matching military dial, I decided that at one point I should get these and do the project. Of course the prices were pretty high for these and in addition to that, right after MKII stopped selling the parts... so the project went in the back burner, still alive and not forgotten but not a priority.
I then managed to get a Seiko 6309 and while it was nice, it was nevertheless vintage and I decided that I did not really want a vintage watch, maybe one that looked vintage but that was new or recent.
With the arrival of the Tsunami from Noah that point also was handled. Unfortunately the initial price and the used price for these were a bit higher then I could afford for quite some time.
Fast forward to these days and I was able to do a partial trade for a Tsunami, sourced the dial and hands and as soon as all the parts were in my hands assembled them all. I am glad I did.
The Tsunami itself is a great watch, well made and solid. The dome sapphire crystal is a nice touch and the shape of the case is comfortable on the wrist. The drilled though lugs give it a toolish air and it seems to me that the installation of these dial and hands compliment the watch quite a bit. The MKII dial and hands are well made and fit perfectly on the Seiko movement, I think that they are a great match for the overall watch and even though this was not born as a military watch, they might as well transform it into one. After all the 6309 was defintely a favorite among military personnel as far as I can see, way back then.
The cushion case is not really my favorite because of the short lugs that make the watch look rather small on my wrist, but the well made bracelet helps a bit in that regard.
Here are a few pics showing also the lume which is nice even if not as bright as a Seiko diver's, probably due more to the small foot print of the lume paint then the quality. Sorry for any dust specs or lint, I hope you enjoy:
