So it's been a few years since I bought a new watch - but I have had such a hankering after a new GS... Unfortunately the £XXXX price-tag has been a bit of a hurdle! So... several months of research later... and I took the plunge with this little beauty: The case is beautifully finished with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, the crown adourned by the Seiko 'S' confirming the 'Dress Sumo' DNA. The dial is simple, and very nicely done - a lovely ivory colour which catches the light well, great detail on the indeces with even a spot of lume (beat that GS!). The hands are more clumsy than the GS offerings however, for the price-point, they are perfectly good and actually add a nice vintage feel to the watch as a whole. Comparisons here are admittedly far-fetched, however the movement is nicely finished, and visible through the display back, the 6R15-powered second hand is pretty smooth, although not quite up there with the Hi-beats of my vintage collection. Accuracy is pretty much perfect. The bracelet is great - again a nice mix of (mostly) brushed and (a little) polished, with high quality clasp and solid end-links - I have not fitted it yet, so enjoying the watch on a padded leather strap which certainly works in the meantime. All in all, I cannot recommend this watch highly enough... if you are after an elegant dress watch, with the advantages over a vintage example of working lume, 100M WR, immense (50 Hr) reserve, and no worries about the occasional accident, with at least 50% of the charm of a GS for 10% of the price... you really cannot go wrong. I opened by saying that it's been a while since I bought a new watch - actually, i got this one lightly used from evilbay from a fellow UK Seikoholic - however Seiya has them reduced at the moment, so I am seriously considering a black-dial version too!

Nice one Mr Sweff - i was admiring that one earlier - the SARB does seem to represent the affordable end of tasteful modern Seiko design.

The SARB series are just fantastic looking watches, I don't think you could go far wrong with any of them. Good score!
