I had been dillying and dallying about getting a silver 6139 pulsations chronograph. Had the blue version for a while so why would I need the silver one. They seem to command a high price in good condition which is off putting too.
Then I spotted one on ebay UK that would make a good project, even had a superb expanding bracelet (now in the refuse bin) and bid on it.
I decided to go for it because I wanted something to do and the dial did not look too bad, it does have general aging and a small flaw at the 10 min marker. When it arrived the case was a lot worse than came across in the not quite in focus pictures. There is a warning, out of focus pictures are thus to conceal as with modern digi cams even a monkey can take an in focus picture.
The restoration did not take long, first off was to sort out the case. Pretty easy to work with these 6022's as all the surfaces are straight or convex. The top surface brushing was dented badly and worn and had to be filed flat, then the radial finish applied using a small file and the old bezel as a guide. I used to turn the brushing on in a lathe using emery paper but think a filed finish looks closer to the ex. works finish these days.
The movement would not work for long so I gave it a full service and had to fit a replacement escape wheel as the staff on the existing one had been snapped off. Apart from having to adjust the minute recording wheel jumper and center wheel finger no other problems were found apart from a gungy mainspring and Diashocks.
Dial and hour/minute hands are not too bad to worry about and although the silver/chrome is a little corroded in places but the lume is intact and relatively clean not to redo. The chronograph sweep was bent like an accordian (it did make me laugh wondering how the hell it got like that). I fitted replacement chronograph hands that another member gave me for changing some hands for him, I think they came off a 6139-6012 and a slightly orange.
The new acrylic crystal and NOS bezel came from Stefan and the seals were changed. Also I dropped a blob of lume on the rotating pulse ring as the original white circle had disappeared.
I have had to borrow the bracelet from my blue pulsations until I can find something else, not having original bracelets erks me:-(
