It looks like an old stop watch. The type used at a track meet.

I don't think I've ever seen a quartz one.
You usually find the mechanical ones from the 1960's / 1970's.
Nice unique score.

It's a stopwatch, not a chronograph. Definitely a 7A, and probably a 7A07-0010.
It is the only 7A model that uses a 49mm crystal!

you're right on both counts, a chronograph shows the time of day too (unlike a stopwatch), and this probably is a 7A07-0010, in NOS condition too .. I hope it works when it arrives .. they seem reasonably rare (as in I can only find a couple of photos on google). Would have made sense at the time, the 7A series were the most accurate analog chronographs you could get at the time I expect. It's a stopwatch, not a chronograph. Definitely a 7A, and probably a 7A07-0010. It is the only 7A model that uses a 49mm crystal!

Actually rare could describe how I prefer my steak I'm not trying to sell this one, was just wondering since I had never spotted one before and I do not get caught out that often .. Even if Seiko churned these outs in their thousands they must have been quite expensive when new and not many seem to have survived..

How does it display the time, the subdials aren't marked up for that?
