A year or two ago these 'KD' models were common on eBay. The story the sellers where pedaling was that these watches, which were produced in Malaysia and China were reimported to Japan to be sold as domestic market watches; thus the D. This makes absolutely no business sense what so ever. No proof has ever been offered to show any of them to be fakes but something definitely has an odour to this whole business. As for third party sellers on Amazon; you really are gambling that you are getting a new watch and not a customer return or factory seconds.I completely agree, it's no safer than buying of the bay IMO. Is the return privelege on Amazon any better than the bay's if the product is not as described or the buyer just wants to return the item?

If the item is fulfilled by Amazon, there is a great warranty. If you are ordering direct from a 3rd party, it's a crap shoot.

But most 3rd-party Amazon vendors (haven't tried watches, though) that I've dealt with seem not to want to accumulate unfavorable customer ratings and tend to bend over backwards to make things right.

Sure, they have the option to have good customer service...but not all do. Amazon fulfillments can be returned, no questions asked. Postage paid, and you get an immediate refund.

If I understand Amazon's A-to-Z Guarantee, Amazon offers refunds on their third-party vendor transactions under certain conditions. (Excerpt from Amazon A-to-Z Claim conditions shown below.) A-to-z Claim Conditions When you buy from third-party sellers on Amazon.com, the condition of the item and its timely delivery are guaranteed under the A-to-z Guarantee. You can file a claim when all of the following applies: 1. You have contacted the third-party seller through Your Account. 2. You have waited two business days for a response. 3. Your request meets one of our A-to-z Guarantee conditions below. • The third-party seller failed to deliver the item by 3 days past the maximum estimated delivery date or 30 days from the order date, whichever is sooner. • The item you received was damaged, defective, or materially different from the item represented on the product detail page. • The third-party seller agreed that they'd refund you, and they either haven't refunded you at all or the refund is in the wrong amount. Note: If you refuse the package and the return does not have tracking information, your claim may not be covered. • You were not satisfied with the quality of the eligible services performed by the third-party seller. To file a claim, go to File an A-to-z Guarantee Claim. Perhaps not as simple as with an Amazon-fulfilled item as a claim must be submitted.
