Maybe I DO Need "help"... Yes, despite my resolution to not buy anymore watches, *at least* until the beginning of the new year, I bought that funky VANAC, and now this dirty, corroded old pile of crap, with a stained dial and useless, broken, non-original bracelet. Why, why, why? Now I have to send it away to have the hands, markers and day/date window cleaned up, and I might as well have an expensive movement service at the same time. I'm not too worried about the stained dial, it's an old watch, so what! Oh well, it could have been worse I suppose! At least it was cheap! - Thomas

I watched the end of that auction live for the fun of seeing the last second sniping activity. Always a fun past time.
It sat under $300 for so long I was planning to pounce on it until it got serious.
Congrats !

Hmmm, well how about this ... keep it "as is" and make it your "daily beater" ... How cool; a GRAND Seiko that is your "beater"!! Beats the hell out of my slightly Frankened "Big/Small Eye" beater!! Seriously though, if you weren't always buying from Japanese sources, that one wouldn't be too bad these days, and those mesh bracelets are pretty nice to wear (if it's like some of mine) & a classic look as well, even if not original. I suspect your "giant" pics blow up the flaws all out of proportion, on the wrist I suspect it will look rather nice. Besides, it's a 6146 36Kbph movement ... and it looks pretty nice inside from the shot you post. Don't know what you paid, but if you paid a "fair market value" for it, you got something worth hanging onto. Medallion, if original, seems quite nice too! It's a classic, don't sweat it. Hang onto it 10 more years, just as is, then try selling it then. Likely you'll do pretty well ... Or, just send it to me & I'll take your problem off your hands for you. I did something like that with a friend here... he came to my Birthday party a few years ago saying "I'm giving you my problem for your birthday" ... it was a Bellmatic needing some TLC. I took it to my watch tech & had him do a normal "service" on it & it ran nicely for a few years. It was my daily beater for a few years ... has incorrect crown & dial is a little funky, but it was cool having a mechanical alarm as a BEATER!! Needs another "servicing" now as it's not running (again, that was the problem my friend had & he didn't have resources to get it fixed, so he passed it to me) & I'll try a new friend who is a watch tech here to see what he can do with it. Maybe I'll put it into a "beater rotation" with the Big/Small!!

I watched the end of that auction live for the fun of seeing the last second sniping activity. Always a fun past time. Bah! Not fun for me!! I was high bidder at like $416 for the whole last day, with a fairly high Max Bid set, so I figured unless someone really dropped a bomb at the end, it would be mine. And of course 5 minutes from the end, it started popping higher, first by $10 increments, then a jump to $497, then a jump to around $530 (IIRC) and then the last one to $562. And I had to watch all that, saying to the screen, "Look, you are not going to win, why are you making me pay so much!!" But I have done the same thing, seeing a watch selling at a "way too low" price, and throwing some bids in, just in case I can snap it up. Of course, they are all immediate trumped by the real buyer's higher Max Bid, until the price gets above my "bargain" zone, and I back out. Meanwhile the real buyer is cursing me!! Still, for the watch I hope it will be, it seemed like a good price. (Except that I am NOT supposed to be buying ANY watches!!!) - Thomas

Still, for the watch I hope it will be, it seemed like a good price. Bah! Just my luck, Saitama-jp wrote to me this week-end, saying that although the watch was running fine when he listed it, he checked it before shipping and now it will not run. He is sending it to his watchmaker for a cleaning and lubrication. I don't mind the delay at all, but I sure hope his watchmaker doesn't "do" anything to it, if you know what I mean. And it pretty much guarantees that I'll have to send it our for a movement service before I can "wear it in peace". - Thomas
