This was making me think UGH! If I knew the ebay name of someone here and they were bidding on a watch would I try and snipe it or do a deal to try and get it or would I back off and think to myself hope he gets it.

Maybe they just went to the $149. BIN price to close the deal I was playing for one yesterday where I put in a low bid and then the BIN disappeared. Odd.

The message I got when I went to the listing is that the listing was ended by the seller due to an error in the listing!

That looks like a nice piece, for a nice price. Not $5 nice price like someone got recently on one of these, but still good. The backdooring thing, I'm surprised sellers go for it. I mean I had one work just last Friday, but it was the first time in more than a year that I asked. The only reason I did is that the seller said in her listing "if you have an offer, feel free to message me" so I did. $35 plus shipping for this 7546-6049

Maybe they just went to the $149. BIN price to close the deal I was playing for one yesterday where I put in a low bid and then the BIN disappeared. Odd. This seems to happen a lot. There was a 6139 on Ebay with a £300+ BIN and also a 99p start price. No way was I going to pay £300+ so I put in a bid and the BIN disappeared and its going down the auction only route now. I do not know the logic in this as I would have thought it would make sense to keep the BIN option going with live bids. Its also bloody frustrating for the seller, well it has been for me when its happened to me.

I think it's a 'function' of Ebay to remove the BIN when bids are received ... I sell lots of stuff on Ebay but these days most are just BIN with no auction element at all - too many instances of non-paying bidders that drive up price & then waste your time!

Ebay used to allow sellers to set the "threshold" amount that would result in the BIN option being removed. You could start at $1.00, have a $300 BIN, and have the BIN option removed when the bidding hit $200. Now it seems to be removed automatically with the first bid.

The BIN was still there after I placed my bid, I can only assume he agreed to lower it via backdoor deal. It was still a deal at $149, but I didn't want it that bad. I was trying to get answers regarding it's functionality, but he was being quite vague. The deal isn't so good anymore, when you have to sink another $200+ into it.

In my view, if you can't service them yourself, you're always going to have to sink $200 into any vintage watch unless you're not going to wear it or you don't mind it grinding itself to death.

You're not wrong, but it still feels better, when they show up functioning properly.
