Geday, I've briefly got one of these and I have to say, this piece hits so many bases I just had to do a review. First point, they are available at around $170US. That is a fantastic price for so much watch! Here's some key features of the 8203 movement - Debut 1977 Size 11.5 ligne, 25.6mm by 5.67mm 21 jewels, Parashock Automatic, single direction winding Rate: 21,600 vph Power reserve: 45 hours Non-hacking handwinding Hour, minute, central seconds, quickset date, quickset dual-language day (Kanji/English) Accuracy rated at -10 to +20 seconds per day (This is not for sure. The PDF lists this as typical, not as limits) Undecorated and unadjusted An interesting point to note is that the auto wind rotor only winds in one direction. The other direction idles. So if you get one of these, this is NOT a fault! So on the wrist this thing feels nice. It has a chunky vented rubber strap, although I believe you can get a bracelet. The strap is HUGE, so designed to go over a bodysuit for diving. The crystal is held in with a simple PTFE gasket and is held very firmly. The crown is a screw down and has a dual gasket system, one inside the crown tube and another at the "butt" of the crown cavity. The bezel is single direction, and has a lume pip. The lume pip is covered by a glass disc. The bezel has a confident and strong click, much nicer than the SEIKO SKX series. When winding the crown, it has a confident, firm feel. Handwinding the piece has a nice pleasing buzz. On the wrist, it looks great. Smaller than the SKX series, but just classic styling that won't get old. The dial is an attractive high gloss and the printing colours are balanced well against it. I think it would be a good basis for modding as well. So in summary, fantastic value for money. Cheaper than an SKX series and you get the additional benefit of handwinding. I think after this review most of you guys will probably add one to the collection! This is worthless without some pics -

I owned 2 of those once but quickly sold them! I could never ever get used the crown position! Looks un-natural and is awkward when setting the time! I will say this tho........the Blue dial is likely one of the prettiest Blues I have ever seen and the thing glows light a torch!

An excellent review. I have to agree with all the points you make I always liked the 'underpants' dial markers. They are unique and suit the dial well. The 0040(I think you may have confused 0023 with 2300 which is the sibling watch with the 3 o'clock crown); is a great watch and it came in half a dozen variants including a luminous dial model. As you say; excellent value for the watch priced so economically.

Never had one, but I like the model overall. Not enough to own and wear I guess but still a good watch.

The Classic saying is excellent bang for the buck on these. Over the years I have owned all the models but my favouite was the Ti Version closely followed by the gold tone version.
And they are more than capable of COSC specs.
