Guys, Im looking at picking this one up but Im a little new to the 6309s. Does thi sone look to be all originial? The dail is my main concern as I thought on the non SUWA dials, the dail markings were supposed to go all the way from the 7 to 5 position. Thanks guys.

I personally don't know but does the seller know? I mean if you are buying you could ask the seller as well or have a little guarantee that it is or not original?

I'm not sure if there are variations of the HK dial, but you are correct that the text on that one is different. Here is mine, the text is longer.

I have seen some postings that say "Correct dial with the lettering from 7 to 5 as it should be." So i just dont know if there are variations,

The small text at 6 o'clock is where the fakers still can't get it right.
It is hard to tell from that photo but the text seems to be to big.
The first gen fake Hong Kong dials read Hong Ko as the text was to large and they ran out of room it fit it all on there.

I have a 1981 6309 with that dial configuration, and remember reading somewhere that the earlier Hong-Kong dialed 7040s had the narrower bottom text line. For reference, here's a pic of my watch.

You will notice that the line of test which is longer reads "6309-704X T (SUWA symbol) MOVT AND DIAL JAPAN CASED HONG KONG" While the shorter text does not have the "AND DIAL" script.
This is most likely because some of the dials were actually printed in Japan while others were printed in Hong Kong or elsewhere.
Both are likely correct as they seem to have all the other markers of genuine Seiko dials.

Hi. There is nothing wrong with a 6309 with a genuine HK dial. The only people who know the difference have to handle the watch or view a photograph. The motivation to buy a watch should not change because of that dial, they are collectible in their own right. Cheers Phil

Cheers Phil Personally I agree but I know that some people only care for original parts even if they look like they have been to hell and back...

Yeah. That's why I keep the battered stuff when I do one up. The HK dial is OEM on a number of 6309's - to replace it with a Japan dial is not right. You can tell from the date anyhow. Cheers Phil
