Yep, it also seems that there is some sort of re-organization where several of the moderators are not moderating anymore. So a few changes behind the scene mostly.

Looks like a corporate get rich quick is now running WUS from the things I'm reading about VerticalScope. In my experience this is never good for the product/website when it gets sold to the money men. I've been aggressively taken over twice while working in London and it's not as nice as it sounds.

I can't understand how they profit out of a community forum except to hoover statistics/data. I can imagine it costs near nothing to host and support the forum, but the marketing data which is willingly generated by the participants is worth quite a lot. SCWF ended up with a whole bunch of ads after they bought that site.

Ad's & data mining are two of the largest methods of income from the internet. This is how sites like facebook and Youtube keep going.

It's about virtual storefronts, online ad space, and marketing / social data. And they get free labor from mods who run the day-to-day stuff.
I've been on the receiving end of several corporate takeovers / mergers. It's never fun, and the happier the face is they put on it, the worse it's going to be. FedEx taking over Kinkos was a slow-motion slaughter of everything, starting with our (Kinko's) culture and best practices, all the way down to squeezing out the expensive old-timers using any means possible. If good people could be fired for legitimate reasons, great. If not, illegitimate reasons were fine too. I saw really good people professionally destroyed just to free up their salary space. I knew the company would eventually come for me, and eventually it did.
An unfortunate thing about the sales of these forums is that the people who are selling and the people who profit are not the same people who created the content and made the forum valuable enough to sell. Members who post regularly, who put in content, who bring their friends and contacts, who help build the community.. all of their work is taken for someone else to profit from.

Yeah, I found the post over at WUS mentioning this buyout. The Omega mod then quit. That company is noted for buying out internet forums (like a motorcycle one, I had read)and changing them. Ugh"!

I would assume that advertising, marketing and selling spots for sellers (companies, stores, etc.) of watches and parts will create quite a bit of money and profit.
