I was killing some time at the airport in bangkok and noticed this beauty at a shop in the airport. It isn't over the top like many le watches from thailand. It's hard to tell from my horrible pic, but the dial has a beautiful wave pattern. Unfortunately it was priced at 33500 baht or around $1100. One of these and a black sumo to swap bezels back and forth depending on what I want that day and I think I'd be set...

I think that one has been out for a while but I haven't heard of any new "Limited Edition" Seiko's lately.
I think Seiko needs to stop being parts swappers like all of the armchair watchmakers out there and actually come out with something new.

I am also not a huge fan of Seiko's recent penchant for "parts bin engineering". But I do take some satisfaction in the fact that they have adopted the nickname for this model that was decided upon, by open committee vote, on TOF when this model came out in '07. I voted against the name "Sumo". I thought it was too contrived and stereotypical. I wanted to call it "The Cameltoe". SEVENTEEN PEOPLE gave the "Sumo" it's name! www.network54.com/Forum/78440/thread/1173557435/Help+Pick+The+New+6r15+Divers%27+Nickname

I really like that, but it's a substantial premium for not a whole lot.

How many voted for Cameltoe? Lol, it wasn't an "official" ballot option. Mods thought it was too naughty... :bs:
But I think it would have won! Least it was a nickname that was relevant to the actual watch!

I'd like to see a better shot of the dial, it sounds interesting...Not $1100 interesting, but you know what I mean.

So . . . . is this something the Seiko factory issued or is it something a private party put together. I don't see Seiko using "Sumo" and that box doesn't seem like Seiko's style. The font / printing of the "Seiko" doesn't look slick enough for my eyes, especially the bottom of the "E".
IIRC, there was a really ugly "LE" watch (IIRC it may have been a Marine Master or a Tuna) that was Thailand only but wasn't well received .

I have seen a few of these for sale, and they all come with the same box. Seiko has adopted (and apparently trademarked) the "Monster" moniker as well, a moniker which also came from the internet forums, and includes this name in it's Limited Edition sets.
