I have a load of these things, good Spiedel ones etc. Is anyone here into them? I need to move them on as they are taking up some space.

Ahhh...the "Old Man Stretchy Bands".
I have a ton of them as well. I'd say a good third of the vintage watches I have bought over the last 12 years have had these bands.
For the first ten or so years they went straight into the garbage can. But over the last few years I have kept them. I probably have 20 of the damned things!
Man, they sure were popular back then!

I think they look great, on the right watches. I guess their popularity, was due to the fact that no sizing was required.

I bought a beauty of a 20 mm SEIKO OEM expansion bracelet a while back to add to 'just the right watch' and still haven't found that watch yet. I guess in the end I always prefer the standard SS bracelets.
Also, I have never learned how to size these expansion bands. I see the guy at the watch kiosk in the mall do it in no time, yet it boggles me as to how to do it.

If it's well made and it looks good on the watch I don't mind them. My extremely beautiful blue 6139 has one on it and it doesn't look bad at all. It's more comfortable than a regular metal band but they really do only look good on certain watches.

I recently repaired a Rado Florence that had a Speidel band on it. It looked like it belonged on the watch as it had nice ceramic bits on it that matched the head. I have a generic twist o flex on a Soviet watch and it seems to suit that particular watch style.
However, I have seen a lot of mismatches when it comes to slapping an expansion bracelet on a watch.

I pretty much agree with everyone. I've been keeping them because I don't know ANYTHING away, even if it's broken. I even make stuff out of broken mainsprings and stuff. Broken spring bars? GREAT, I can get a spring and a stainless tube out of it. Call me a pack rat if you want.
Anyway, If anyone wants a bunch of these things let me know. I'm sure someone can get some use out of them. I'm yet to find the right project for them, and I doubt I will!

I hate them.
And they eat up the lugs of gold plated base metal cases.
That being said the World Traveler was extremely comfortable on one but I wouldn't trust a watch on one as I found it moved up my arm when putting on a jacket and if I waved my arm hard enough I could see the potential for it to fly off of my wrist.
I too have a box of a hundred or so of them that I have taken off of used watches that I purchased.

And if you are hairy, they will pull all of your hairs off too. They were called hair yankers back here years ago. They were popular in the 1960's and 1970's and everybody had them. It was funny when you met someone and they had .......... " Balded Wrists ". (rofl)Every Timex you would see had on e on it also the Wesclox watchs.

I guess it made it easier for them to remove when they were making sweet 70's love on the shag pile rug. And if you are hairy, they will pull all of your hairs off too. Blimey, the sex addicts jump suit is awesome (not).
CD reminds me of when I was a kid at school and I had the obligatory Timex and it was on a spandy bracelet. I am left handed and one day when chucking a tennis ball the watch shot off my wrist. Well made these Timex as it survived a concrete/tarmac interface well enough.
