Hi there,
Just wondering if you could chime in on how you do to clean your watch crystals before installing them. Often when you buy new old stock crystals they are full of fingerprints and other dirt accumulating during the years in storage. Sometimes it's enough to use some rodico to clean them but from time to time I find them very hard to get perfectly clean. What's your ways of cleaning a crystal before installing?

I use a glasses lense cleaning cloth and breath on the crystal first. Huff huff huff then buff Then I use a puffer wind blowing squeezy thing to shift out any dust that may have landed on the crystal. Simples! I also use a very soft artificial hair art brush to gently dust off the dial before refitting the movement into the case and the huffer puffer to remove any dust before final fitting.

Sounds like a good option, never thought about wipes for glasses. I have a bunch of them, definately going to try this next time.

After installed, I find that the compressed air leaves a residue, I use a stiff horse hair brush to clean the residue and view the crystal under a bright light until satisfied.

After installed, I find that the compressed air leaves a residue, I use a stiff horse hair brush to clean the residue and view the crystal under a bright light until satisfied. Anytime compressed air is used it will always leave a residue on almost anything. The wiping process can be easily done using ..... " Optical Lens Cloths or Paper ". I use the cloth that Photographers use for their .... Camera Lens. Moisture gets trapped on the glass or Crystal and that is what attracts the Finger Print smudge to stick on also un-seen dust. One would be surprised how much dust is actually in a watch case or Camera after closing it up. Also Hair fragments. Always use a ... " LUPE or Magnifying Glass ", to check before closing. Remember also ..... Oxygen creates ..... Oxidation because of the moisture in the air itself. What I have done when I started , is find a Plexi-Glass box and use it to close up the watch. By this I mean I attach a small quiet vacuum to the outside of the box with a fitting tube, and suck the air out while I close the case back. I found it work really good too. Just a few points given.
