I have been collecting a long time. And over the years, I have seen a lot of watches and a lot of prices. Sometimes, us "old-timers" lose track of the current market and tend to value watches in our collections based on what we paid for them rather than their current value...whether that value is up or down from the purchase price. I went through a small tub of watches that I have in my safe. They are not the cream of my collection, but they are not parts watches, either. I call them "mid-tier". I plucked this one, mostly at random, out of the tub to do a little experiment. I placed a value on it myself, but really want to know what you guys think. This watch is NOT FOR SALE. It will not be on Ebay or the trade forum next week, so I am not trying to elicit a fair sale price from anyone here. This is just for my own personal edification about what you guys think the market will currently bear. That having been said, "What value would you guys place on this watch?"
The watch is a pretty standard April, 1972 6139-6005. All original down to the grot in the bracelet, which, for some reason, I never cleaned out? The case/crystal/bracelet have some honest wabi, it has the original gaskets, and there are a couple pinpricks of discoloration on the subdial, as is common. It functions perfectly, and has about a 7" original straight bracelet. It's pretty much as I found it on Ebay, probably 8-10 years ago. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd probably rate it an 8. What say you? Be honest...there are no feelings to hurt here, nor are there any wrong answers.

All in all Aaron, it's still a pretty decent example. Much nicer then a lot that sell on the bay-of-fools for humongous amounts. The mark between the 50 + 55 marker, is it on the crystal or a bubble on the dial?

I voted in the $250-$300 slot. More than I might pay at this stage in my collecting but relative to the originality and condition and the vast amount of cobbled and compromised exemplars in the market it's a fair price - to someone who knows what it's really about and understands the value of an unmolested vintage watch.
A new crystal, gaskets, movement service and a good ultrasonic cleaning of all the metal bits and you've got a very good watch. The problem of course is many people want something shiny and don't want to (or cannot afford to) deal with a proper restoration. Thus the Firefly and their ilk keep selling crap and people keep buying.

I think it's time to tidy this one up and move it to the Keeper Bin.........

Nice looking 6139 - it's got the 2-line resist dial matching the original 'Pogue' - which for me was a must on my first 6139.
I voted ~$250 because it needs a crystal to sell better, and the 2 dots on the subdial will probably pause higher-dollar buyers.

The "Pogue" watch prices just like the 6105 prices amaze me as the prices vary so much! Same goes for the 6309-7049 models! I guess its a matter of what someone is willing to pay?

I voted $200-250 but I do not like seeing the day wheel hung up like that. That would take me down under $200 if I were seriously buying it.
Now if it's showing 1:53 AM and the day change is underway and about to complete, then I'm back to the original vote.

It's a nice honest watch. It's a T resist and it's on it's original bracelet (band). Even with the dial damage that 'will' make £250GBP to £300GBP IN THE UK. So that is $400 - $475 all day long!
I had a result today. I brought a nice 6002 for my fathers christmas present and paid £135 including postage ($210) and that's considered a bargain even for a rough T dial watch.
I say nice and get it sorted as Tom suggests it'll clean up real nice.

True Pogue, last of them, April '72. Totally original, with some excellent features - unfaded indicator ring for one. Nice honey dial. Beautiful chrono hands and white lume.
As is? I'd list for $300 without hesitation, and that's low. If it got the works, full service etc, I'd bat for over $400 and I'd get it. I've sold similar watches for well over $400 before this. I could possibly get close to $500. Sellers in the UK would doll it up and they'd list for the equivalent of $500-600 if not higher.

I'm voting with Spencer here. These things are in a value bracket like 70's cars right now. I remember when here, you could swap a few beers for a Torana (our version of the Chevy Vega) or a Kingswood (our 4 door family car version of the GTO). Now a rolling shell with loads of rust is worth thousands.

Wow! Some great stuff here, guys. Thanks a million! It's just what I was looking for. I know I asked for "expert" opinions, but I am also interested in the opinions of those here who may be new to the hobby. They will be looking on prices and values with fresh eyes, and I would love to hear what they have to say as well. The more votes and comments, the merrier!

That watch at $200-250 as some guys have said? Very low now. I have a list of guys who are waiting for one of these. I wouldn't even have to put up a sales post. I could just send out some emails and the watch would be gone within a day.

Same situation here. And the expectation is 350+. You won't find a trashed one here on Australian ebay for under 250. Wow! Some great stuff here, guys. Thanks a million! Movement shot. Thats a nice clean looking watch engine if you ask me! Needs a little spit and polish but spot on. I was about to say does anybody know the exact serial number and model details for Colonel Pogues watch but now I think about it that is a very silly question! 1st with the correct detail wins absolutely nothing but my admiration and award winning smile.

My own personal estimation on this watch was....$275. What is the running average of all those here who voted so far? $273.07
Not too bad a guess, eh?
