I know....I know...... its whatever the market will bear but what would a Seiko 6309-7040 be worth if the case was in really good shape, had been serviced within the last year but the dial and bezel insert was AM? Just curious.

I agree. Plenty of 6309 7040s with AM parts in the $200-$300 range. $250 seems about right. Unfortunately the recent service seems to count for little because so many of the examples from hot wet countries have been 'serviced' and we've learnt to take such claims with a grain of salt.

Ps, if you actually own this watch, my suggestion would be to hang on to it until you find a non-running or unserviced example with a genuine dial and hands and combine the serviced movement and all the good bits into one watch and sell the inferior example for $200-$250.

In my case the watch I have was serviced by a watch-smith here in Kansas City.

I too have a local guy that services my watches. However, I've found it difficult evidencing a recent service when I (infrequently) sell a watch because he doesn't do printed service records, just a barely legible scrawl on a docket when you bring it in. Next time I'm going to have to ask him to be a bit more specific about the watch (model and serial at least?) and the service performed.

Seems as if getting a watch serviced in order to get more for it should one decide to sell is a waste of money? I guess as long as its running then you should just go ahead and try to sell as is and let the buyer worry about it if/when servicing time comes!

I have said this before...I always figure in the cost of a service and reseal of any watch I buy. It has nothing to do with me trying to sell it at a higher price. It has everything to do with the fact that I like a watch that keeps good time.

I guess as long as its running then you should just go ahead and try to sell as is and let the buyer worry about it if/when servicing time comes! I guess that depends on the watch. A highly collectable seiko with higher value could recoup the additional cost of a documented service compared with a non-running or barely running example (6105, 6306, 6217?), but a $250 watch is still going to be a $250 watch even after servicing - particularly if that watch isn't all original. If you're looking to move the watch then I think I'd just be up front about its condition and know or unknown service history.

I can't see a 6309 with an aftermarket dial fetching anything over $200 ( and that's just because it's serviced otherwise I wouldn't even go that high)

My original intentions were this...... To take this 6309-7040 which has been serviced about a year ago and then turned into a MOD.... and then bit by bit try to find OEM parts such as an OEM dial and OEM bezel insert and turn it back into all original. Of course its a touch and go as the parts I want folks just dont seem to want to part with so to remedy that temporarily I'd buy an AM dial and an AM bezel insert. Eventually I'd have an all original that didnt break the bank.

I sold a few on the 'bay about 3 months ago. Can't recall what parts were AM, but there were some. I think I got between $180 - $225 for each of them. I agree with you Rob.

Whatever the market will bear. At the very least, you could provide the service history which may be important to some. Whether the gains you could make in this regard to offset some of the costs in retrofitting it back to OEM is another matter. Just restore it to OEM if that's right for you. Wear it and enjoy it. You can sell it any time in any trim.

My first 6309-704X was a MOD even before the world knew about MOD's. It was a 6119 with a Ramon AM dial and hands. I loved that watch and wore the crap out of it. I am currently down to my 6306 birth by relation 1 owner (2 if you count me) watch and my need to pas ti on 6309. Mo watches, mo houses, mo bikes, mo coins, mo cars, mo problems and taxes My favorite AM was the original Scubapro AM dial (only 4 made) from Ramon in conjunction with Shawn Taylor on TOF. I only sold it cuz I wore it too much There are 2 watches I will never sell. My 6306 birth watch and my been through too much to earn it Omega Dynamic.
