So I've been looking at some divers, and was hoping for a bit of an education. What can you tell me about the Promasters & NY0040's and the like. What else is out there, are there better options to consider?

So I've been looking at some divers, and was hoping for a bit of an education. What can you tell me about the Promasters & NY0040's and the like. What else is out there, are there better options to consider? As far as older Citizen divers go; these are as good as it gets. By that, I mean the 8200 series of movements have been around since 1975 or there about and have proven themselves to be true work horse movements. They are found in entry level watches as well as the EcoZilla model professional dive watches. Citizen put out a number of models under the NY0040 label. There were black dial, white dial, blue dial and even Lumibrite dial models and there were mixes of bezel insert colours too. ProMaster covers a huge selection of watch models; all tool watches; that have mechanical, quartz, solar and kinetic/solar hybrid movements. If you are looking for a more modern mechanical calibre then seek out watches with the 901x calibre movements. These newer movements tend to be mid to top tier in performance and accuracy, along with the watches they come in.

Rene~, As far as new parts go, that's true but there is absolutely no shortage of spare from donors since nearly all of the older models had the same common calibre movements; that gives us about 40 years worth of donor parts not including anything the findings houses might still have.

wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/6037/watch-review-citizen-promaster-ny0040I did a review on one. NICE movements, they hand wind. Auto wind rotor only winds one way but it's not a problem. You get decent amplitudes and the finish is comparable or better than SEIKO. Spares are no problem but can be slow from CITIZEN. The 8200 series is comparable to the 7S series, but has handwinding.

Hi. Titanium on 4mm leather from Red12 straps. This strap is like horse harness so I don't know how Rene would have handled the ^mm job without the meat tenderizer. Cheers Phil

As with most things Citizen, not as much love as compared to Seiko amongst the fanatic Japanese collectors. Unfortunately. And yet, with all the Citizens I own, I also find myself wearing Seiko more often. There is a TON of dive style offerings to sort through. My collection only has modern, no vintage as of yet. I don't think you could go wrong with a NY0040. For a $100 watch, can't be beat. I got the lumibrite face model. just went and dug it out for a pic because as long as I've had it I don't think I've ever snapped a pic (See what I mean about no love???) Think I'll keep it on for a bit. Wears smaller than most of the Seiko diver's I am used to, but thats OK because it is actually a great size. Comfortable. The lefty crown still kinda freaks me out at first. But if you want BIG auto, What a watch. Pricey though, and truth is I wouldn't own one if I didn't grab it for 300ish at a pawn shop. And if Digi or Ana-Digi is your thing, many choices there. Classic. Of course you can't ignore the Eco-drives, amongst my faves are the ones I own. And I don't know why, but I like this model and it may be the next Citizen I own: so many choices. The one I wear most often? The Ecozilla. Love that watch. Badass defined. But if Eco drive ain't your thing, definitely grab one of the NY autos. Underrated, underpriced.

Those are all nice , but the B741 is a heavy watch, ( 4'th from the last ) but it gets clumsy while diving I have noticed also. That last one I think it will wear like one of those old .....6106-8000 , might be wrong but it sure looks ..... " Comfy ".
Of all those shown the only ones I don't care for is the ....... ( 3'rd and 5'th ) from the last . The case design looks buggy. But to each their own. That first one every time I go for one some one closely beats me. I like that Dial designs. That dial designs are like the older ....... 5861-F80057 and the Lumbrite's.
