I came up with another SOG-model Seiko, and was doing some poking around online to see more shots of them. Found this picture: "Special Mission Force member Clay Curtis with his Rhade Montagnard interpreter Peo. Peo was killed shortly after this photo was taken. Photo taken: circa 1972" Is Peo wearing a 6139?

I think it's definitely a 6139.
To blow it up hold down "CTRL" and tap the "+" key.....it shows it pretty well....though still grainy.

Absolutely a 6139-600x.
The SOG teams would routinely reward indigenous personnel with Seikos for doing good work. I have heard that to the Montagnard guys a nice watch was a BIG deal, and was considered a badge of honor.
That "tiger stripe" camo was a SOG thing as well, and IIRC was made in-country.
GREAT picture. And thanks for your service, Clay and Peo!

To understand the Rhade Montagnard and their role in the highlands of Vietnam, you really need to read.
"Tiger men, a young Australian soldier among the Rhade Montagnard of Vietnam by Barry Petersen"
A true and factual account of the man that built the Rhade Montagnard force into a solid fighting unit. Although some may not like his opinion of the US CIA…

Looks like a 6117-8000 Navigator to me when I blow it up as I cannot see any shadow of a sub dial in the grainy photo. Hard to say really could be a 6139-60xx series watch. Without better photos or first hand accounts we will never likely know the true answer.
Nice photo shame Peo didn't make it through alive.

This picture should go in our 6139 database. How many other shots of 6139s are there from Vietnam?

Ahh, but there are buttons on the side of the case... Damn these eyes! You're lucky I'm weird and I've seen random comedy movies that came out 16 years before I was born... My dad quotes that movie all the time for some reason.

High opinion he must have had of Peo.. not just a Seiko, but a 6139.

"The most decorated US war hero" and a real eye opener to the war in Vietnam.

Interestingly i know that Barry Petersen the original commander of the Rhade Montagnard gave out Glycine Airman's to select members of the Rhade Montagnard. He acquired them from CIA/Air Force pilots in exchange for better handguns that the pilots wanted for personal protection
