Nice article. I'll probably get lynched for saying that the black SDGM00x looks like a bad re-dial ?

it seems sometimes that I'm nearly alone in preferring non-JDM watches. I'll take a U.S. version over it's JDM variant (if there is one) every single time.
I disagree with the premise that the U.S. market got boring or substandard watches. The movements are common between the markets. Some with some tweaks, (extra jeweling sometimes etc), but any decent Seiko movement will challenge it's Swiss equivalent, JDM or not.
Seiko sold pretty much everything here that they sold in Japan. Yes, with some tweaks, but generally if a model was there, it was here.

I like some of the JDM dress watches (I have a SARB035 on my wish list) but in general I prefer the "normal" ones.

Since I like dress watches and military-style watches I've noticed that quite a few of the ones that I like the most are only sold in Japan.

That's actually what they look like. I have no idea why they chose that font for the word "Automatic" but IMO it's basically just a cream colored Cocktail Time Cool with more normal indices for twice as much money.

The SARG017 is quite old skool looking, not sure if I like it or not.

The SARG017 is quite old skool looking, not sure if I like it or not. My favorite SARG is the SARG011. Those old skool diver style SARGs are pretty nice looking too, especially the blue ones. But I think I'm with you on not being quite sure about them for some reason.

Man, I really dig that SDGZ013. My only problem with it is that it is a limited edition...I'd never wear it. Plus, I have the original.
I am glad to see Seiko finally coming around to the idea that they made some really beautiful models back in the 1960s and 1970s, and incorporating some of those design elements into modern watches is not a bad thing.
