Hope all are having a great holiday.
I wanted to determine if I could use painters masking tape to get a straight line on a painted dial. The pictures tell a good story, it is bit better then when I did this free-hand and is noticeable when the lume is glowing. It also takes a bit longer to do, but am happy with the results.
I picked up two new to me divers over the past 2 months, both at a really good deal due to the fact that the owners had said that the crown tube had been stripped. I took off the crown from my 7002 and it worked perfectly on both the 007 and the 009.
I ordered a new crown and stem. The problem I'm having now is the stem is way too long and the thread portion of the stem is not long enough. This is my second stem that I cut down and there just is not enough thread left for the crown to grab onto. I'm trying to JB weld one now but am concerned that I may seize up the spring on the crown. Will see tomorrow, any one know where I can get a properly sized stem?
I was a bit surprised to find that the cost of a new OEM crown and stem is $40.00. I may have to go this route or will try my hand at a Rolex style locking screw down conversion.
Next up, I purchased a Seiko replacement crystal on eBay for my 7002. It came in the original packaging but did not have a Seiko part number and upon inspection the crystal it did not have enough bevel compared to the original, when installed it interfered with the bezel insert. I searched high and low but cannot find one except a replacement sapphire crystal from another seller that has stated the correct part number.
I now know why these watches are great buys, they IMHO very nice looking, very well built (with the exception of the crown) and keep excellent time, all three are within COSC.
Happy New Year,
Dan
