Hello watch enthusiasts, You should be aware of the Seiko 36000 bph Lord Marvel series, as it is the first line of Seiko watches to achieve this beat rate, even before the Grand Seiko line. I have been waiting to acquire one of these, in good condition, at a reasonable price. Toward that end, I took a chance on a seller that I had not bought from before. The cardboard box within the air mail pouch. A comforting amount of foam wrapping in the box. And a bubble-wrapped bundle inside that. And there it is, a 36000 bph, hand-wind Lord Marvel, in excellent condition, with a very nice new brown strap. Would you like a closer look? :-D I knew you would!! :-) If I have the history right, the first 36,000 bph Lord Marvel was in 1967, so the serial number of this one, that starts with a "5", means this is a 1975 example. It sure is in good condition! :-D Here is the crown side. The "subject" side. And the case-back. I could not resist wearing it, especially with that excellent strap, so I put on a ecru colored oxford cloth dress shirt for this wrist shot.' I will be putting a yellow-gold Bob Davis deployment on it, but here is a shot of the original buckle, showing the attractive texture of this strap. Thanks for looking! - Thomas

Thomas, you nailed it with this photo. While the watch is a Marvel; you shot is marvelous! The positioning of the watch; the proportion of cuff to other content and that cheeky 'ready to scurry back under the cuff' stance is perfect. Not sure if the position of the watch was on purpose but I measured it and you got it pretty damn close to the Golden Measurement. Truly inspired and I'd bet that many advertising folks would kill for a shot like this one 7dfe79adc2f0

Hi. I would suggest 1965 is the relevant year. Cheers Phil

Definitely 1975...the caliber 5740 was around a long time. I'd guess '65-'75. But it should be noted that earlier 5740s...namely those with the 5740A and 5740B...are not 36k movements.
The 36k beat rate started with the 5740C, around 1969-70. The 5740A beats at 18k, the 5740B at 19.8K.

Yeah. Didn't look at my database as I didn't think they went that long. Would suggest not many made in 1975 as the Q craze was in full swing. Cheers Phil

Your unveilings are certainly not good for my watch collecting budget. Just as I have convinced myself to focus on divers only, I stumble upon this.. Maybe there's room for a dress watch section aswell? Must be.

I was browsing in the used store in the mall close by and spotted a silver Lord Marvel 36000 for 27,900Yen. So I returned home and did some research on the models. They were made from 1967 to 1978. As Cobrajet mentioned, only the 5740c is 36000 hibeat. I am going back tomorrow and photographing it....or if it looks good in the hand (did not see the caseback), I think I will grab it. Looked like this version. The other version was the Italic style numbering....like Estrickland's. SS54201 by blingmeister, on Flickr
