I like it a lot! Funny how a simple change in lume colour make such a difference. The faded insert is a nice touch too.

Hi It looks like its been "aged" with tea and sandpaper, quite nice though seikola Seller stated it was artificially wabi'd. And here back in November I said you can't faker a ghetto or wabi Anyone want to venture a guess as to what it sold for (without cheating and looking it up)?

I like it a lot! It's the type of wabi I'm willing to wear (artificial or natural)

Would be interesting to know his technique. I have a 6309 7040 with AM dial and hands. It'd look heaps better with this colour lume.

I find it funny that Seikos which are 40-50 years old will still retain the same snow white lume they had when new. We have to STAIN ours to make them look like they have the lume decay all Swiss watches seem to get.

It's a cool look . . . kinda like it but the bezel needs a few more dings and bangs.
I'd guess someone bit for $200?

the whole new but vintage thing isn't my cup of tea - but whoever did this did a fine job. It looks quite well balanced and I like it a lot.
And the SKX173 can just hold it's own against anybody - such a good looking watch.
On a side note I am convinced that all this vintage Swiss patina we are seeing is being created and faked somehow. I'm convinced of it - no proof yet but it will come out and blow up the vintage Rolex/Omega/etc market.

Seiko SKX007 Patina Mod Project
This stunning SKX007 is the iconic, affordable, automatic, virtually indestructible 42mm diver we all know and love. Except for one thing. I made it look old. It was a nearly new Seiko that I put through a patina process to give it a one of a kind, lovely warm attractiveness that oozes character and could form the basis of countless tall tales.
So what has been modded?
Dial The dial has patina’d lume plots and dial printing, simulating countless hours of exposure to the harsh natural environment of a commercial diver working in the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hands All three hands have been subjected to lume patina. They look at if they have spent years being fried by merciless UV rays as you have been surfing the big waves in Oahu.
Chapter Ring The chapter ring has a lovely coating of aged tone patina consistent with decades of neglect and abuse as an everyday worn, indispensable, potentially life-saving tool.
Day & Date Both the day and date wheels haven’t been ignored. They have been coated with a gorgeous, uneven level of discolored sludge. This sort of patina could have been acquired during years as a diving instructor off the coast of Australia on The Barrier Reef.
Bezel Insert The bezel insert has been faded and worn. It has been aged as if you have spent the last 15 years working hard as a deck hand on a salmon fishing boat in the North Atlantic.
Strap This Jurgen’s strap, handmade in Germany, has had the living snot beaten out of it to look as if it has been depended upon for many years to keep your trusted tool diver reliably and comfortably affixed to your abnormally strong and muscled arm.
Condition: This watch is being rated as “Ruggedly Handsome” (83%) condition according to the TimeZone Grading System. This is an honest assessment of the condition of this watch according to TZ definitions. The watch head itself is free of large scratches or dings. The only visible wear is the gorgeous patina described above which has been intentionally applied to the watch to simulate many years of living hard and dangerously, like the real man we all wish we could be. The strap shows considerable evidence of having been worn by an incredibly capable, hard-working, steely-eyed professional of unquestionable strength and sex appeal. No boxes or tags are included.
Payment: Payment will be via PayPal. The watch will be shipped to your confirmed, verified address after the payment clears.
Shipping: FREE SHIPPING in the CONUS via 2-day USPS Priority Mail. I will need to charge for shipping outside of the continental USA – Please contact me to determine international postage.
Return Policy: All Sales Final. No Returns.
Thanks for looking!

Wow! This is why blue jeans cost more when they have bleach, stains and holes in them new!

Case does not match the rest of the artificial wabi. Case should be beat to hell if a commercial diver or somebody in the oil industry wore it everyday. Beat up case would have lowered price.

Whoever bought it essentially pays for the time, materials and labor (including the artistic eye) that was used to come up with the unique look. If someone is willing to pay 580 for it then I don't have a problem with that. It Is well executed imho.
