Hi guys.
If I wanted to try my hand at modding and at restoration, what would be a list of required tools for doing it properly?
The cost of having a pro service a vintage pieces on top of the cost of acquiring vintage pieces makes it hard for me to acquire some pieces. I realize I am not a watch maker, but I would like to at least inspect a movement, change crystal and gaskets, replace hands and dials, replace crown and pushers, etc.
Thanks.

You will need all the basic tools that a watchmaker uses. - case back opener - case knife - crystal press - a selection of good quality screw drivers; 0.5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm - good, anti magnetic tweezer - hand puller and hand setting tools - various media for case restoration; sand paper, Cape Cod cloth, polishing compounds - model paints - other sundries which you will discover when none of your other tools will do the job You don't need the most expensive tools but try to avoid the really inexpensive ones as they will eventually damage whatever you are working on.

here's a list of stuff for doing mods and basic cleanup project - there's more stuff required if you're going to do movement servicing
case back opener (jaxa type) case opening knife movement cushion movement holder hand removing tool or hand removal levers hand fitting tool screwdrivers tweezers air blower micro-fibre (glass cleaning) cloths rodico ultrasonic cleaning machine silicone grease crystal press finger cots or latex gloves watchmaker's eyeglass magnifiers springbar tool - not essential, I just use a scalpel bracelet sizing tool - you often get this as an attachment with a crystal press
the really cheap tools are usually rubbish (but not always), but to get you started you certainly don't need the expensive swiss stuff
