Hello folks, I placed a paltry bid on a particular Seiko period piece, and plucked the prize for peanuts! Not a very special or historical model, but even so, the packaging that the seller, 52imperial of San Antonio, Texas, did (or did not do) was pathetic, and I am very angry about his carelessness. I guess I will write and ask if he has some excuse, and depending on his response, I want to leave negative eBay feedback. Look below and tell me what you think, okay? The minute I took the box out of my mailbox, I felt the watch just banging back and forth and from side to side, completely loose, as if it was in a empty box! Sure enough, when I peeked inside, there was the poor old watch, bouncing around like the pea in a whistle, sliding and banging against the abrasive cardboard. At least there was some bubble-wrap inside. but it had been simply wrapped around the watch and then left unsecured. Don't be fooled by what looks a tear in the wrap. the ends were left open and as soon as the box stated moving the watch slipped right out and started banging around the box. There is the watch, which miraculously seems to be working. It is a 1974 Seiko Lord Matic 5606-7330, a low beat automatic that you can hand wind, that hacks and the quick-set works just fine for the day and date. The dial is a rich purple color, and the faceted crystal is in surprisingly good shape (lots of dust on it here, see later picture). The seller's pictures weren't very good, but I was still surprised to be only bidder. Here is the crown side. The common side. And the clasp. The bracelet does not look to be an original or even a Seiko, and it is ridiculously short! The mandatory vintage watch case-back picture. Well, it is in better shape than the seller's pictures indicated, and after the terrible packaging I am surprised it still runs. What do you think, does the seller deserve negative eBay feedback? I'll send him a message first to see if he has some excuse, but I am pissed off! In any case, now I have to look for an appropriate strap for it! I have never had a purple watch before, I am having a hard time thinking of a strap color to match. Perhaps I should steal a bracelet from some other normal, silver, vintage Seiko I own, and put the donor on a black strap? ****************************** 1 hour later ****************************** Okay, I could not own a watch without wearing it, so I tried a few straps and the only one I liked was a shiny black cowrocodile. I could also see a dark brown strap if it had some purple/red shading, but I didn't have one of those. AND of course, I had to dive into my extensive shirt collection to find a vintage purple paisley number to match!! Thanks for looking! - Thomas

That's to bad about the packaging but if it bothers you that much that you now hate the watch I'm sure Mar52 will gladly buy it off of you since she has been looking for a purple Seiko for a long time.

Thomas, I would be inclined to leave feedback after getting a response from the seller.
That said, I would be very nervous about the rust that shows ina couple of your pics. It may be nothing but never the less, it could be an indicator of what is inside...

well we all can hope it is just filth and can be cleaned...but it does look like some kind of corrosion...very nice find...and with so much packing material around and newspapers everywhere...poor packaging is no excuse...God Bless John Thomas, I would be inclined to leave feedback after getting a response from the seller. I looked at that auction! I just wasn't sure about that dial being an original color and the SEIKO bothered me. The price was great.
Glad you took off the other bracelet.
Tell me the funny letters in the SEIKO was because of the faceted crystal so I can kick myself.
If the watch wasn't harmed by the packaging I'd write the seller and let them know it could have been and they should pack better in the future.
I would not leave them a negative as you received what you purchased. I'd do something with the stars and communication and mention POOR PACKAGING in the feedback line.

Here's a blue dial version and the "Seiko" font looks completely different to me....or is that because of the faceted crystal?

Here's a blue dial version and the "Seiko" font looks completely different to me....or is that because of the faceted crystal? I'm fairly confident that the various camera angles coupled with the facets on these dials are what confuses folks. The fakers couldn't be bothered with mocking up watches that were this exclusive. They always go after common and mass produced models.

Aha! That's what stopped me for going for it. Good to know. With that funny font and bracelet I let it go.

Hello folks, Sorry for not responding last night, I guess I went to bed too early! I am pretty sure the dial font is correct, my pictures in this thread all have the facet of the crystal cutting through the dial logo. And I have been "talked down" from my egregious high horse on the negative eBay feedback, it sounds like a "neutral" feedback would be more appropriate, mentioning the watch arrived undamaged, and was as described, but pointing out how awful his packing was. :-/ No comments on my purple paisley shirt!?! It and the watch are probably both from 1974! - Thomas

I have had people just throw watches into a bubble mailer and drop them in the mailbox.
And I have also had people do what this seller did...loosely couch the watch in a bit of bubble wrap and shove it into a standard box.
But I guess they don't realize that the box will be jostled around a bit on it's way to the other side of the country...it will not be "preciously processed on a proper purple postal pillow"!

You have a 40 year old shirt? And you can wear it? Nice watch, by the way. Yes and no! The oldest shirts I still have are a pair of Woolrich "Chamois" flannel shirts my Dad bought at a "New England's Largest" Sporting Goods store (not anymore) , Parkers in New York in the very late 1960's, so they are like 45 years old, and I can still wear them! That purple paisley shirt however, is a "fitted" style that was popular in the 70's, and it is a bit too tight to wear in public! I used to be able to wear it before I moved to Ohio in 2009, part of the Carbohydrate Belt here in the Midwest! - Thomas

I'm probably in the minority, but I actually like that bracelet. Perhaps not on that watch, but I do like it.
