A dog is a weapon if it is not restrained. And more so a big Rottweiler like that... those guys do not just bark, the cops were touching the dog's master...
I like dogs and have been a breeder of German Shorthairs and Airdales... both crazy dogs with a purpose bred in... the Rotweilers also have a purpose and it is well known---they are guard dogs.
I deem the owner as a real idiot, having a non restrained dog there is exactly the same thing as pointing a loaded gun at the cops. The dog paid for his life what the stupid owner should have paid for.
My wife was bitten when she was 7 months pregnant of our first kid... she was walking to the market and there was a woman sweeping her sidewalk when my wife walked past and the dog bit her twice on her ankle. The kid did not move inside her for two days. The doctors were planning on forcing the delivery, but the child inside finally started moving again. Dogs can be dangerous.
We are on the beach all the time but the majority of people do not restrain their dogs... always the excuse is.... he or she does not bite--- the dog might not bite them, but what about others???
Dog owners should be careful of other persons, other dogs and their own dogs.

Dog owners should be careful of other persons, other dogs and their own dogs. That's it in a nutshell. It's been said, "There are no bad dogs, just bad owners."

I do not know if I mentioned this anecdote...
I have a US Brother-in-Law who has a golden retriever. One time on our monthly trip to Tucson, he asked his wife to bring a big bag of food for the dog.
Ok, once in Tucson, we went to a Petco and I was amazed at the different types of food they had... they went by breed... yikes.... so we asked for a big bag of Golden Retriever grub and ... no got none.... well, my sister-in-law called him to ask if it would be ok to bring a big bag of Golden Lab food??? Give me a break!!!!
How dunb can a dog situation get... sure, I can understand that dogs depending on size or type of exercise or illnesses can have special needs or requirements... but what if I have an Afghan Hound, and since Afghanistan is a problem country, there is no Afghan Hound food, is the pooch supposed to go hungry?
Pet stuff is getting very weird, in my day they had the expensive, the cheap and the home left-overs... they were not so sophisticated.

Pet stuff is getting very weird, The "breed specific" commercial dog food brands, IMHO, are a marketing gimmick. (Sort of like vitamin formulas that are age specific.) There are plenty of premium brands on the market that are not breed specific. I go by ingredients, not marketing claims, when buying dog food.

Compared to most of the commercial pet food we see today; table scraps or leftovers from our tables are much healthier for our pets. Don't believe me; just read the ingredients list on any bag or can of dog/cat food! If we can't eat it why should our best friends be forced to eat it?

Probably true. I've known pet owners that cook for their dogs. But their is a wide variety in quality of commercial foods. Reading the label ingredients, you will find they are not all the same.

It used to be that the cheapo dog foods would incorporate chicken feather meal to increase the protein... now a days... the feather meal has become desirable and the finer dog foods have it... usually they just label it as soluble protein and give it a %.

Probably a difference in labeling laws between the US and Canada Hey; what else are they going to do with all the beet pulp after all the nutritional value has been extracted...it wouldn't even make fertilizer?

I don't know what the guy who owned the dogs beef with the police was, maybe he didn't want them in his neighbourhood, regardless he had a big ass intimidating dog that went for the police which is perhaps what he wanted and because of that it got shot which is fine with me. I would have shot it too

(But the "public" response -- death threats over a dog?)

I'm in total agreement Norm but that's why the prick had it with him, parading up and down the street trying to make the 'don't fuk with me' statement. Looks pretty daft now.

Yet it amazes me that the majority of public response seems to cast the Hawthorne Police as some form of low-life pond scum who should be hung up by the gonads for having shot the dog. Go figure.
