Notched cases were used from 69' to mid 70' on Proof and Resist models. From what I've observed and through collecting the notched case was used up until July of 70' Was that on all the variants? 6139-600x and 6139-603x's.

It has the wrong dial for a 6002. I am pretty sure it is a 6005, and Jose's write-up doesn't show the caseback. I remember Bruno's original SCF thread about this, as you may as well, and am almost positive it was a 6005? Your most likely correct. I didn't have time to search for Dave's post and referred to Jose's. I remember Dave well as I bought parts from him way back when and we discovered his family lived about 15 miles away from me.

I'd say it applies to notch cases in general but I'm not sure notched case Resist models were ever sold under anything but 6005 and 6009 variants.

From what I've observed and through collecting the notched case was used up until July of 70' Not sure exactly when the cutoff was, but I am pretty sure the notched cases were gone by 1971. They were used on the -6000, -6001, and -6009 cases. Around 1971, the 6000/6001/6009 were discontinued in favor of the 6002/6005/6007. Amongst the changes between these two sets of models was the 6139B replacing the 6139A, the two-piece seconds hand was replaced by the one-piece, and the notch on the case went away. All models with the notch should be marked either "Water70mProof" or "Water70mResist" on the dial, depending on market.

Back to the issue of when did the horseshoe caseback disappear, I've just been playing with a 6139 7070 that has a March 77 horseshoe caseback. That's the latest horseshoe that I have.
