Congrats Tim! But I find watches that need me to read a book to figure them out challenging.

Congrats Tim! But I find watches that need me to read a book to figure them out challenging. There's really not much to read, pretty simple. Not sure what the issue is with the manual sync, but I'll see if it syncs tonight by itself.

Tim, does that one get the radio signal from Fort Collins?

Tim, does that one get the radio signal from Fort Collins? Yes, Russ, this one syncs through the atomic clock.

Owned many atomic Gs, and notta one I've been able to manually sync. It'll sync tonight no problem, especially if it is off your wrist and/or your sleeping and not moving.
Nice pick up!!

I thought this was going to be a thread about 'specialist evening interests'... Very disappointed... Nice watch btw. I don't own a G currently but I've been looking at the negative display version of this one for a while as a grab and go beater and something I can sync my other watches to. Its the SKX of the Casio range imho and that's no bad thing

Hi I have the same G-shock (Almost) and find there are some parts of my home where the signal is rubbish, I have to find somewhere where the signal is showing L2 or L3 before it will sync manually, It will sync at L1 but it's a bit hit or miss. I love mine, it's the most reliable of all my watches and will probably out last me

Great G-Shock, I love the Atomic models. My only one is a piece that I destroyed as a kid and put back together with parts from donor watches. Thought of getting a DW5300 but read that the resin rots pretty badly on those.

Hi If you look at the picture of mine there is a small bar under "Sig" to indicate it's synced recently, As long as you are receiving either level 1,2 or 3 on your window ledge it should sync OK , but if there is no level showing ie. there is no L1,L2 etc. just a blank space where it should be then it won't sync manually or automatically. Mine sometimes misses an auto sync when the weather is bad but not often. Seikola

I read through the manual again, and it says the presence of "RCVD" in the upper left corner, means it synced successfully. I have not figured out what the "SIG" represents yet. Since it is located by the other alarm functions, perhaps it has something to do with that? Edit - I just found it, the SIG is for the hourly time signal. I'm assuming it beeps, at the top of each hour when turned on.

A few years back a shop in the uk called Argos had hundreds possibly thousands of them listed on ebay at about £25 and once word got round the forums they sold like hot cakes, It shows what good watches they are when you see how few of them ever get flipped in the sales sections. seikola

There's too much interference during the day to expect a successful sync which is why they are set to automatically sync in the middle of the night. The technology is actually pretty interesting. Reception based time keeping is always contrarian to the mechanical ways, when considered in and of itself, its an engineering marvel. Here's an interesting patent describing how the signal is received and interpreted. From citizen. www.google.com/patents/US7190745The Ft Collins tower is called WWVB. the wiki page has some good explanations of the function. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWVBMy experiences with Casio RC has been hit or miss, but I live on the east coast with a lot of stuff between me and colorado. Citizen by far has the best performance. I've even had manual syncs at high noon work fine. I suspect the larger cases for the analog models allow for a larger RC antenna than what is available in the casio digitals.
