So we all love the stories, about spotting a nice vintage Seiko in the wild. Well, last week, I had an experience of my own. I had a customer come in to the shop, I was quoting some entry door systems for he and his wife (very nice folks). He noticed the watch on my wrist (Pogue), and said he had the same watch at home. He had gotten it as a gift when he was younger, and hadn't worn it for many years, and it had been tucked away in a drawer. We struck up a conversation, and one thing led to another.....yes, of course I asked if he wanted to sell. I'm sure it has sentimental value, so he was reluctant (which I completely understand). I asked if he could please bring it in next time, and he agreed... Fast forward to today...He came back to check on his quote, and get more info regarding his entry door. As we discussed business, I mentioned the watch. He reached into his pocket, and handed me his watch. It's in very nice condition, dial/hands/tachy ring are fantastic. It needs a service, but he said it's keeping great time, and the power reserve is really strong. Unfortunately, the original bracelet is long gone...but I'd be thrilled to own one in this condition. If memory serves me, it's from Sept '71. I referred him to Wrist Sushi, and he has checked us out. Hopefully one day he will get registered, because I know he has an affinity for watches in general.

Very nice 'true' Pogue. Cool to see something like this is the wild.

That's a great story Groundhogg. Hopefully he will be inspired to get it serviced and back on the wrist.
Over Christmas I ran into the father of a mate of mine at a food and wine fest. We got talking and I noticed a 6117(?) Seiko world time on his wrist. Of course I asked him about it. His wife bought it for him on a trip to Hong Kong in 1972. He let me check it out and I was surprised it wore bigger than it looks in photos. Of course, I wouldn't offend him by asking if he wanted to sell but I gave him some tips about polishing the crystal and the name of my watch guy if he wants to get it serviced. Says he has several more old Seikos missing crowns somewhere so maybe I'll ask about those next time I see him...

Cool story Tim.
When Kathleen and I were in Hawaii this past week we went to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Before going to the memorial you have to line up and see a movie about the attack. As we were lining up there was this employee/volunteer helping shepherd people around and he had a very nice (to my eye and from a distance) 6309-704x on his wrist.
He happened to come close to us and I let him know "hey man, nice Seiko there!". He replied that he'd had it "30 years" and loved it. Then he kept his distance from me!
LOL! I wanted to make sure my Hawaiian brethren knew about this so that one of them could go on over there and check it out. He's a big-ish Hawaiian looking fellow that was working in the area where visitors are staged before the movie (before the shuttle ride to the Arizona).

( Ki Na u). Ki'oki is Hawaiian for George. I always see him when I go buzzing around down there because my friend works there with him. He is a Veteran and he has had that watch for so long that his wife says he even sleeps with it. He is a nice guy too and very friendly and he has .... ( 4 more of them in Top shape too.) I tried to get even one from him but he wont sell. That 6309-7040 is cherry too and in good shape. Two of them are kept in their original boxes when not used. Aloha Dan ...... Louis
