Hi. Noticed on another forum the complaints regarding 6217 Diver case, bezel and insert selling for around $2k. To top it off original rubber strap is offered on the bay for $1.5k. A bit rich considering that you would be crazy to use it for fear of it breaking due to age. Cheers Phil

Shocked that it went that high. Last I looked it was at about $800, and I thought that was about it. But this is a truly NOS case, not a "sample" case with a punched caseback. I don't think I have ever even seen a MINT complete 62MAS sell for this kind of money. Strange. And the strap price is just insane. Ten or so years ago, somebody on the original Seiko and Citizen Forum came upon a small cache of NOS 6105/62MAS straps. He was selling them for the then-high price of...$75 each. Wish I had bought more than two! Some original waffle straps are quite supple...others will practically turn to dust in your hands. I have a theory about this. This strap would have been introduced in 1965 with the 62MAS. It was then used on both of the 6105s until those models went out of production in about 1978. Seiko claims to make spare parts for models up to seven years after they have been discontinued, so it stands to reason that the last original waffle Seiko made could have been produced as late as 1985. That is a 20 year difference between the oldest straps produced and the newest. So if you find a NOS one, it could be 30 years old, or 50 years old.

I thought it was over rated anyway and sold mine. Sod the history the 6105's are better watches. As for looks the Citizen version is a better looker in my opinion and a fraction of the price of the 62mas if it's the vintage look your going for.

I can't understand the complaints to be honest, stuff sells for what people are prepared to pay. A NOS case for one of the most desirable vintage Seiko divers? I ain't gonna be cheap! Two people obviously wanted it badly and I would imagine they could afford what they paid, good luck to 'em I say. That strap won't sell at that price but if it did - good luck to the seller.

6105's better than a 6217? That's a matter of opinion Tony! My opinion is the 62xx calibre is Seikos best vintage movement.

No complaints from me regarding the sale of the case. Stuff is worth whatever people will pay. I remember 20 or so years ago I advertised a 15 year old iconic Australian made car. It was basically in as new condition and I put $10 k on it. Four guys showed up at daylight, all wanting to buy it, I let it go for $25k.
Incedently how many members here have a 62 MAS. I have 1. Cheers Phil

So what is a poor man's 62MAS? Also, which Citizen model is Tony referring to as being similar to the 62MAS? Prices for the real thing are too rich for me! Mark

Mark Seiko 7005 8050/8052 is commonly referred to as the poor man's 62MAS. So know for the similar hands and dial - particularly the lumed indices. Not my pic. I'll take some shots of mine tomorrow.

I was in that auction until my $500 threshold got blown out of the water - amazing price for an incomplete watch. NOS will do that!
I sent a message to the seller congratulating him and encouraging him to collect that bid PDQ. He replied he's looking around for more stuff to sell. Ha!!
That was a beautiful insert!!!

I had one many moons ago. It never grew on me. My only regret was I didn't put it away in the drawer for 10 years so that it would quadruple in value. Same with my Rolex 5513 I thought I did ok by selling it for $200 more than I paid for it a year before

The problem with a loose 6217a movement is the movement/case ring is harder to source than a dial. That one is from a World Time as it still has the 24 hour wheel fitted, and you'd also need the correct stem for it.

If someone wants to send me a broken/spare movement/case ring I can probably make a replacement plastic one for you to get you out of strife. At least it won't corrode.
