As lots of members here know, I really like dive watches and have wanted a 6105 for a while but found the prices for nice examples (even ones that need a lot of TLC) to be a bit higher than I could afford. I don't have that "Irish Luck" that Dan and Catkicker have so I figured I'd never own one. Well, this watch scratched that itch and I get the benefit of a modern movement, vintage looks AND lume that glows all night.
I bought this watch used on ebay but the seller's listing stated that it was only worn a few times and based on it's condition when it arrived, I believe the claim. Even had the blue case back sticker attached. I originally never had any intention of buying the watch. I looked at it, liked it and put it on my watch list. One night shortly before the auction ended I was on the computer and my wife saw the watch. She said "Oh, that's nice . . . you should get it". I told here no, it's too expensive and I really don't need a new watch. She then said, well . . . our 25th Anniversary is coming so why not get it? So, I threw a bid and won it without competition. The seller was great and it arrived promptly. Came with everything . . . box, warranty, instruction booklet, bracelet, rubber strap and more spare links than I'll ever need (unless I sell it to Mark . . . LOL).
So when it arrived I told my wife I wanted to look at it and then she could have it back until our Anniversary. She said that I needed to wear it in case there is a problem so just keep it and enjoy it. Psyched!
This watch just oozes quality in every aspect. Everything is solid . . . . bracelet with screwed together links, solid end links, signed clasp and divers extension. Case is beautifully shaped and finished with both polished and brushed surfaces, drilled through lugs and clean crisp lines for the crown cut out. Oh . . . and it's 300M water resistant . . . . WAY more than I'll ever expose it to! Given that this is a homage to the 6105, it's easy to understand that it's a thing of beauty. One thing that has surprised me is how comfortable it is on the wrist. I was a bit worried that the case's sculptured crown protection might dig into my wrist. Nope . . . even with an uneven number of links on either side of the clasp and plenty of room in the bracelet, the watch usually sits right in the middle of my wrist. Very comfortable! It is a heavy watch but then again so am I! I'm used to bigger watches like the Sumo and the SRP227 with one of Harold's SS shrouds so it's not an issue for me given my 8" ham hocks! The case back is dominated by the Typhoon logo and includes the serial number and Dagaz name.
Printing on the dial is crisp and clean (love the typhoon logo @8) and the lume is bright and lasts all night. The hands are very nice and the second hand goes all the way to the outer markers. Date wheels is white with black numerals that fill the window and this stands out nicely against the dial. This is really helpful given that I didn't listen to my mother when I was a kid . Clean brushed aluminum chapter ring adds depth to the dial as does the slightly domed AR Sapphire crystal. The count down bezel insert has a matte finish with both hour and minute markers while the bezel itself is coin edged and clicks smoothly (120 clicks). Probably my favorite part of the watch is the signed crown. I really like the design of the grip and the crown screws and unscrews so smoothly that I find myself wanting to unscrew it and screw it back down just for fun. The movement is a Seiko NH15 which is also known as the 6R15 AFAIK. It hacks, hand winds and auto winds. The thing keeps GREAT time based on my short wearing of it. I set it a week and two days ago and it has only gained 10 seconds. I can't imagine the accuracy it could achieve if I were to wear it consistently for a month or more so that the auto movement gets a chance to settle in.
Overall, I can't think of a bad thing to say about this watch! I'm very clad my wife told me to get it and even more happy that I get to wear it and not have to wait until July.
As of writing this post, I only have one wrist shot of the watch but I'll see if I can find some time to take some more detailed shots.
If you get a chance to land one of these, I'd highly recommend it!
