Bulova's Accutron watches, first sold in October 1960, use a 360 hertz tuning fork to drive a mechanical gear train to turn the hands. The tuning fork was powered by a one-transistor electronic oscillator circuit, so the Accutron qualifies as the first "electronic watch". More than 4 million were sold until production stopped in 1977. Here are some of my Accutrons. From 1968.

Thank you Don for taking the trouble to upload the pictures. The Accutron's are interesting watches, I too like the Spaceview but also the rather nice square gold one from 1967.

Looking at your accutrons makes me sad. When I was first starting out my collection there were so many times I passed on getting the old Accutrons, because at the time they did nothing for me. Now that I am crazy for them I cant find them anywhere at a reasonable price. Plus the cost of repairs are a consideration. I have a few Modern "Accutron" watches, but even though I love them, they are Accutron in name only. Whenever I see your collection I'm reminded of my foolish ways. embarrassed-smiley-face

Here is the only one I have left, used to have about 5 or 6 !
Bulova Accutron 218D. 14-karat GF yellow gold no brassing this thing rocks the peepers!
NOS vintage Magna-Tite crystal, Cape Cod cloth treatment, NOS Accutron strap with 10K GF buckle to match.
Continuous sweep second hand, they say it moves 360 times per second.
Absolutely as smooth as my Spring Drive when you look at it. Simply amazing.

Do you count the ESA version as an accutron?
