At a recent family function my wife brought up my passion for vintage Seikos, and her relative says 'Oh I have an old Seiko I bought in Vietnam in 1965 sitting in my drawer. Let me send it to you." I offered to fix it up and get it back to him next time we visit so he can pass it on to his son or grandson. Well I fell out of my chair today when I opened the box. A 5717-8990 Single Button Chrono with perfect dial and hand set on the original Stelux Beads of Rice solid link bracelet !!! I practically passed out. It's been keeping perfect time for about 8 hours now. I spent the better part of 3 hours tonight getting the BOR back into total like-new condition. On to the case tomorrow. It's missing the chrono pusher button and the inner chapter ring (how??) and has the wrong main crown and the crystal needs to be replaced and the end links to be adjusted. If anyone has the proper casing guide showing the silver chapter ring part number please let me know. So enjoy this photo 'as-received' and I hope to post a complete restoration photo some time soon. Late edit - I am reading up and see the 5717 did not properly have luminous hands - must be aftermarket but vintage at that.

I'd say those lumed hands are just fine. The watch also has a lumed dial, and it is nearly unheard of to see one without the other. The missing 'dial ring' may actually be due to a crystal replacement. When a non-standard replacement crystal is fitted, often this ring will just be omitted because the two parts are incompatible. That watch is a looker!

I need to start asking people what they have in their drawers. (Don't read into the double meaning.)

Lovely watches those 60's models. Stefan had some pusher buttons for these a while back. Worth a try

Now that is nice! Good luck in sourcing any needed parts.
