Day off today as I've had to take No. 2 cat to vet's. Large bill expected later so I'm consoling myself by wearing what has definitely become a favourite.

Catch Up: A 2-Part History Lesson in Thomas's WISdom...Sorry I missed yesterday, but I'll do yesterdays watch now, which is part of my continuing history. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX PART 1 The other day you saw the watch I have owned the longest, my Casio Twin-Graph from 1989. Eventually all their batteries died and I still did not know the "jumper wire reset" trick to restart them after a battery change, so in 2004 I had to looking for a new watch! Our American watch choices (except for the high-end jewelry stores) was still a bunch of thin, semi-dress, chromed pot metal quartz crap. I mean really nasty looking garbage. But I remembered that our local CostCo store had installed this watch/jewelry stand near the electronics section, so I went and looked there. Well, I was (easily) impressed by a Wenger Swiss Military watch I saw there! It had a cool "wavy" texture to the dial, the hour markers were silver outlined, and the hands had a practical-tactical look, especially the red arrow-headed second hand. It had a uni-directional timer bezel and cool stuff on the case-back! Remember, I had yet to discover the online watch world, and never seen a single Seiko, Orient, Alba and the only Citizens I had seen were those rectangular ani-digital watches. So, I seemed to have pretty good "taste" even then! Here it is as I wore it yesterday: And an older pic, showing the wavy dial texture. I was fairly excited, but as I wore the watch, on it's light, tinny, folded link bracelet, and manipulated the stiff aluminum bezel, and the sloppy imprecise crown, I quickly grew disappointed. :grrr: It had only cost $70, but it was still a crummy watch. (I have since put it on the "Shark" strap you see, which I think goes well with the dial texture.) So I went back to CostCo to see if they had anything I liked better... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX PART 2 Okay, so I go back to CostCo about a week later, and next to the watch/jewelry case they have big stack of these Casio PathFinder PAG-40 watches. They are on sale for like US$114, and they have all kinds of cool features, like a compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, 5 alarms (!), hourly chime, stopwatch, countdown timers and a backlight. Wow, that's a lot of "tech". Module 2271 And I had recently bought a dual-sport Suzuki DR650 motorcycle from my brother, so I dreamed about how I could use some many of those features when I was on a ride! SOLD! Well, this was just another mistake I'm afraid. It didn't look that big in the store while it was in its box. But when I got it home and tried it on, it's ridiculously large! It is 54mm across the buttons and 18mm thick. If that sounds big for wearing under your shirt cuff, imagine trying it under a motorcycle jacket and gloves! What I ended up doing was putting a piece of split "pipe foam" on the motobike handle bar and strapping the watch on there! Now I could see it and use the functions! Woohoo! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX And as much as these were both "mistakes", on the plus, they are what drove me to start searching online. I "knew" there had to be better watches out there somewhere. And to avoid finding Rolex watches and such, I searched for "poor man's watches online", and the rest as they say, was history!! My personal watch history will continue tomorrow! See you then. - Thomas
