Hummingbirds are plentiful around my house, so I couldn't resist buying these feeders when I saw them at one of the hardware stores. I've resorted to making my own nectar, and they seem to love it. I just combine water/sugar at a 4/1 ratio, bring to a boil, and fill 'em up. I typically get 2 cups in each feeder, and have to clean/refill every weekend.

Really cool Tim, I get over to Palm Springs most years and they have them there, fascinating to watch, found them really hard to get a good foto of though.

Wow, those are really groovy Tim. I'd love to see a pic of a Hummingbird on one of them. I feed the birds too, made my own wooden feeder & will post a pic of it tomorrow as it's night in England now. The Great Spotted Woodpecker is one of the nicest looking birds that pecks at my nuts so I'll try & capture one in a photo soon. They're a bit different looking to American woodpeckers, very aggressive with other birds but very shy with humans. One killed itself the other day by flying into a window pane of the house which was a real shame but the cat found it tasty, so it didn't go to waste.

I should be able to get some pics, the blue feeder is hung right outside my living room window.

Pretty feeders!
Slowly change the ratio of the sugar to water to more water. They'll still come by. They'll also remember flowers and not just resort to the feeders.
I used to hang feeders until the yellowjackets showed up.

So I just got a video of this guy, while I was outside watching the Giants game. I was under the impression that hummingbirds didn't like to perch much, but they certainly do perch on these feeders when feeding.

Those are beautiful. Hopefully they clean up easily also. Feel free to pack a few next time you head back across the country. I'll be waiting.
