1957 Longines Conquest... Response from Longines.. Further to your request, we are pleased to provide the information contained in Longines' handwritten registers. Originally, the serial number 10'115'924 identifies a wristwatch in stainless steel bearing the reference 9000, part of the Conquest collection. It is fitted with a Longines mechanical self-winding movement, caliber 19AS and has a 14 ct gold medallion at the back of the watch. It was invoiced on 09.07.1957 to the company Maclaine, Watson et C°, which was at that time our agent for Singapore. Cheers

Seiko Marvel, serial Number 774701 (April, 1957) This model has 19 jewels 18000 bph with Antishock which was pre-Diashock protection. Interestingly it has a red movement in it, said to be used for training Seiko watchmakers at the time but who knows!

My watch guy pulled this sports diver out of his bag of parts watches to show me. I went back the next day to ask if he'd like someone (me) to pay him to service it and we struck a deal. I found a new crystal on eBay and then waited patiently... It's one of my favourites and original bracelets on these seem rarer than hens teeth. 3N serial number makes it my second birth year watch and only a few months younger than me. Taking a look at the back to confirm the serial number I see 'Japan L' under the serial. I've seen Japan A before, but what does the L signify?

My 1978 6309-7049. I've got a story that goes along with it, but I'm on mobile only currently. So it has to wait until I'm home again... Edit: So here's the story... I posted a classifieds ad here and on TOF for a birth year -704x and got a quick response - from John (jringo). He sold me his -7040 with black kanji day/date wheels and I waited for it to arrive. Sadly, the notification that it was waiting at customs got mislabled and I didn't get it until it was too late. The watch went on it's way back to John. But it didn't arrive there. The carton did, though. So it was stolen on it's journey (might even be before customs in germany). We will never find out, as both post offices pushed the blame away and told us that the other post office was responsible for reimbursement... So if anyone sees a turtle with black day/date wheels and a domed crystal for sale... I would be grateful for a PM. While everything was still hanging in the air (the journey back took 6 weeks if I recall it correctly), I saw an ad for the -7049 you see above. Super clean, still on original strap (even the spring bars are the original ones, I was told) and in really good nick. From '78, too. For 300 Euros, I had to buy it. Even if the other one would still arrive, I couldn't let the opportunity pass.

I may have been looking forward to this day more than some of the others because birth year watches have been quite significant in my watch collecting over the past year. I pulled out these two which are both birth month and year (coincidentally my birthday is on the 5th, so today is also appropriate) Feb '65. 603 Seikomatic 6619-8970 bought from Josh (which might have got me a bonus point if he hadn't done me such a ridiculously good deal !) Then I remembered that I had a third 7606-7000 So, 6 hours each, I reckon

Unfortunately,I don't have one thats that old, I had to let my sundial go I had much the same problem. I despaired of ever finding an affordable watch from 1944, so when the f71 project came along on WUS, I requested #44, and got it. Not really a birth year watch, but as close as I'm likely to find.

Got this 1958 Bulova just to be a birth year watch, no Seikos from my year floated my boat at any price point that made any sense. This beauty set me back under $20. I hand polished the 10K GF case just to remove the tarnish and cleaned up the hands, threw it onto a $4 leather strap and it is a beauty. The crystal normally looks good but under the harsh sun at high noon and the unforgiving camera lens the crystal looks like it needs replacement. I Polywatched it back to more than reasonable real life presentation. The movement "didn't run" so I thightened up the top bridge screws and now it runs like a top with a power reserve of 36+ hours. So July 5th is a non-Seiko day. Next 3 days are too. Attachment DeletedJosh this is a no-date watch so please count me as 'set to date' ! ! !

1972 6139-6005 Today. Not the same year as 'THE' Pogue, but being a birth year watch instead is cool by me:
