Shhhh, the Yanks are in bed at last and the Brits haven't woken up yet. Aussies, Kiwis and Asians, now is our chance. :-) I was given this Sports 150 digital chronograph for my 17th birthday and it saw me through the adventures of my late teens, twenties and beyond as my daily wearer. It's in fairly good nick considering but the crystal is all scratched up so I'm counting that as self inflicted wabi.

While I tried to kill my beater I admit it is extremely hard to do. I have tried to kill my pocket piece coins over the years and it is alsoreally hard. I really have to wonder what the watches that Roman sells on Ebay have gone through as I have tried and have come nowhere close to destroying one as such.

You're right. Just what do the original owners of Ramon's watches do with them? My Seiko Sports 150 has been used while snorkling, windsurfing, caving, bush walking and camping, rock climbing, house painting, excessive drinking, etc and has been dropped on tiles more than once. All it's needed over the years is a new clasp and a pusher freeing up once.
What are you still doing up Josh? Time for bed :-)

Here's my 1990 Tag Heuer F1 Chronograph. This is the most wabi any watch of mine is EVER going to get. I personally prefer patina over wabi. In fact I was thinking of getting a NOS bezel for this one. The only thing holding me back is that the lume on the new bezel wouldn't necessarily match the nice patina that has developed in the indices so I'll probably let this one be.

Very nice. Get the bezel while you can and think about matching the lume later. If the bezel is cheap enough to experiment on you could try artificially ageing/colouring it.

Time for bed :-) You don't want to know what my afterwork after party consisted of If there was a red light I got stuck at it I had to go to the post office to mail off some quarters to trade for another WRUW price and had to wait in line for 15 minutes If I was stuck on the dead end I might as well hit up the bank in the grocery store across the street for some half dollars. Bank is now gone Go to the library (Libary AKA amboolance on the Northside or ghetto near you) and then stop at another bank in a grocery store and have to wait 15 minutes to not score anything good. The only reason I stayed was because fate tempted me once previously and I followed along only and won only to lose a few weeks later. Anywho you can't beat fate. You can't buy high volume or high alcohol content beverages in the suburbs. Stay off the Northside. Even if you donate to a legitimate charity trying to spite the Northside or richies trying to cheat the system driving their Mercedes and living in the suburbs while you bust your ass 6 days a week your donation will eventually be indirectly funneled to them Now I know why that guy in the Matrix sold his homies out for a better fabricated life. Is it Friday yet? What were we talking about again? After 72 hours with no beer and 97 problems here we are at beer 10 with a mail in rebate incentive to keep the party going. Current pic. More pics and a better story (if I can spin a better yarn than Cooter can ) tomorrow if I make it that far. It is Wednesday here already Or MAybe it is Saturday.

That's actually not a bad idea Thank you! I think I'll do just that and start reading up on how to artificially age the lume. In fact, this line of thinking also gave me another option. Maybe I should order a complete set of parts for it then wait for the right time (some years from now) to do an aesthetic overhaul. Hmmm...

Over in the affordables forum on watchuseek they talk about dial ageing techniques a bit - making their Submariner homages look vintage. I think dipping in tea/coffee or baking in the oven are two popular alternatives. It could be worth a visit to see what ideas they're kicking around.

Sounds like a rough night Josh. No wonder you need a beer or 10 to wind down. Don't let Cooter beat you in to work in the morning though.

Both of these were bought brand new... The Seiko was well over $200 from a jewelery store and the Escort was exactly $2 with a fill up at a gas station. Both still work perfectly. They only suffer from cosmetic issues like the gold wear on the Seiko and a few nicks on the Escort.

I was really struggling to comply to this one... The watches I bought brand new are few and they still look very good. The few wabi'd examples I bought do not count, and were cleaned anyway. But then I dug deep and behold: Bought BNIB on a Berlin flea market from my pocket money (I think). Since then, the piece that holds watch and chain together went missing, the crystal cracked and the dial doesn't look to good either. I guess it's no where near water resistant, and it has rust inside... Sounds very rough. But it's good for today. Edit: Damn, missed that it has no date. Here you go:

I knew I might have a problem with today ! If you look really closely you'll see there's a tiny scratch on the bracelet . That's as Wabi'd as I hope it'll ever get. It's my youngest's 15th birthday today and we're out for a meal,so I'm pleased I have an excuse to wear my "best" watch this evening.

It wasn't new and mint when I bought it from Mike Mounce 4 years ago but I guarantee I put a good bit of wabi on it , since it's my demolition watch. (Pssst...never remove the bezel, there be dragons and dirt and dust you would not believe) 1/2 point perhaps... Rob Attachment Deleted

I have a lot of Seikos, many with wabi, but none were bought new. This IronMan is the watch I have owned the longest, except that key-wind pocket watch I posted on the first. The crystal is getting a bit nasty. It was bought new, of course.

Ok. Going for a full point. Bought this last year for my son, to start him on his road to WISdom, he has managed to wabi it nicely... A for effort? Rob Attachment Deleted

I don't have watches with too much wabi, so instead I'll take a different path. Here is my bronze Zelos Helmsman with close to a year's worth of patina. It's definitely no longer bright and shiny.. And in some odd corners, there even lurks some green mucky stuff.
